Not your typical hotel on the beachPosted Feb 11, 2014
Pros: Wonderful and capable staff! Loved getting to know them during our stay. The fresh seafood was excellent!
We chose this hotel because it wasn't your typical hotel on the beach. Be prepared for more limited amenities and for the more "rugged" rainforest experience of being inland on a plantation.

Amazing Staff! Beautiful Grounds! Great Food.Posted Jan 17, 2014
The Staff was extremely nice! The grounds are a tropical paradise! The food was much better than some of the other resorts we tried. The rooms are clean and very private. I recommend staying in one of the cottages on the hill, you will enjoy waking up to that view.

Rustic perfection!Posted Nov 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
We really enjoyed Fond Doux. It has a family atmosphere with staff who obviously enjoy working there and owners who make a point of introducing themselves to all the guests. Each cottage is nestled in isolation in the midst of the forest, some with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. It is very quiet and absolutely peaceful. If you enjoy nature and don't mind a short walk to your hotel room (through the forest!) then this is the place for you. The cottages are very tastefully and comfortably decorated, which means that this hotel is very rustic but also very comfortable. The meals including breakfast were good. The location is somewhat isolated from surrounding towns (Soufreis being the nearest, about 10 minutes drive away). If you are confident driving on the narrow mountainous roads, a rental car is recommended but if not, then the hotel will call taxis for you to take you around the place.

Pros and cons - great cottages, pool and staffPosted Nov 18, 2013
Just finished a 4 night stay at Fond Doux. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The cottages were awesome. We were in hilltop papaya with a plunge pool and the outdoor shower. Very romantic and quaint. The hotel pool was also very nice. However the communication at the hotel was a bit lacking. We were invited to a Caribbean meet and greet followed by a buffet and and dancing. No prices were mentioned in the letter delivered to our door. And upon discussions with other guests we came to the conclusion that it was included. Most guests did all inclusive but we didn't. Even if we had to pay it was fine. But when we checked out we were shocked to see a charge for over 150$ US! For what we were served that was ridiculous. All they had to do was put a note in the letter indicating the price, and we would've eaten somewhere else. Also the excursions were very overpriced and included very little. We had stayed in Rodney bay previous to here and found the prices reasonable but because its more remote at fond Doux they seemed to really go for all you had. Our advice would be to try and get a good driver from the airport and use them while touring around the island. Our driver said he would charge 20$ an hour and even with entrance fees we could've saved quite a bit. Overall the hotel is very nice but watch your wallet!

relaxing stayPosted Oct 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
Great little rustic hillside retreat with staff that are eager to please. The individual colonial style cabins are perched within the hillside plantation with louvres and screens that let the cooling breeze and tropical night sounds run through. Not having TV's or WiFi in the rooms makes for a truly relaxing break (WiFi is available poolside and in the restaurant area though). The fruit trees and cocoa trees are ripe for picking and guests are encouraged to help themselves to the fruit as they need. It is well located for some touristy destinations such as the Sulphur Springs, but you will need to travel by taxi, hire car or local minibus. The hotel runs a free shuttlebus to the nearest beach and can arrange tours /trips at extra cost.

Very nice vacation hotelPosted Oct 14, 2013
Pros: Nature setting
Cons: Lack of air conditioning
Location: About 45 minutes from the airport
It was hot and there was no air conditioning, unknown to us beforehand. That should be made clear in the promotional material. There was easy entrance to rooms by mosquitoes, many of them in there. The path through the jungle to cottage was not always lighted late at night. I hit my head on tree growing slanted over path. The owner said he would cut the tree down after we left. The complimentary breakfast was excellent.

Beautiful Lush ResortPosted Aug 13, 2013
Location: Favorite restaurants nearby were Boucan and Martha's Tables. Sugar Beach is absolutely beautiful and only 10 minutes away. The snorkeling is amazing!
Fond Doux is truly a tropical paradise getaway. It's only like a 10 minute drive from the gorgeous Sugar Beach located right between the famous Pitons. The staff are all wonderful and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. We stayed in Hillside Papaya with our own plunge pool and outdoor shower. I loved it! The Plantation Tour at the resort is a must. There is an abundance of fruit trees and gorgeous tropical flowers all over the place. You can pick the fruit right off the trees and eat them. The mangoes are amazingly delicious! Honestly, St. Lucia is the most beautiful island in the Carribean.

Paradise in the valleyPosted Jun 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
This was a great ending to our vaction in St. Vincent and the Grenedines. We stayed at the Mango Cottage at the top of the property. The vegetation was the most beautiful we have seen, set in a natural rainforest setting. This was a one night booking so we could catch our flight from St. Lucia back to the states. Bottom line is we wished we could have stayed at least a couple more days. If we are ever in St. Lucia again we will stay here!

Peaceful and good value for money.Posted Mar 10, 2013
Pros: Beautiful room and breakfast.
Cons: Restaurant quite expensive for dinner.
Location: Good access to airport and to jalousie beach. Close to soufriere.
A wonderful stay. Stayed in the treehouse which was the honeymoon suite and it was very private and beautiful with a lovely heated plunge pool. Earplugs required at night because of the wildlife. Heard some noise on the last night from some shouty excitable neighbours quite a distance away so can only assume they were very loud but otherwise it was very peaceful. Ceiling fan only as aircon not needed. Room on the shady hillside so very cool even on the hot days. A very comfortable super king sized bed. Ensuite bathroom clean and functional but beginning to look a bit dated - ie new shower head needed and a few cracked tiles. Mosquito net ripped around top- we didn't mention it to the owners. The front desk staff were always extremely helpful and obliging for booking taxis, restaurants and tours. Breakfast is top notch and the cocoa tea takes some getting used to but then is completely addictive. Good value for money overall.

Gorgeous rainforest hideaway!Posted Mar 2, 2013
Pros: Our lovely room and the rainforest setting. Magic!
Cons: Can't think of any
Location: Just a few miles south of the lovely old town of Soufriere, up in the hills.
Fond Doux is a really lovely place to stay. The rooms (which are actually secluded little houses) are idyllic, set in a lovely rainforest setting, really super comfortable, no aircon (which we much preferred) but mosquito nets and very effective screens keep the insects out at night and big ceiling fans create a breeze when you need one. The staff are charming and really friendly. The food is delicious too and all the fruit and veg are grown right on the plantation so it's all super fresh. We had a lovely 7 days there and would definitely go back, and we'd highly recommend it. But don't come here if you want a sanitised, Sandals type experience which could be anywhere in the world. Fond Doux is pure St Lucia.
