Pros: The staff, the beach, the Chic restaurant.
Cons: No elevators for my aging knees!
Location: The location in Rodney Bay area, is one of the Royal's most appealing features, with excellent restaurants directly across the street & shops nearby.
After 7 stays at the Royal, I consider the people working there to be wonderful friends. From the casual in-pool bartender, Troy, to the estimable sommelier/maitre d', Marc, this excellent staff makes up for some of the points I might take off for minor upkeep issues (e.g., showers in the steam room/sauna, etc.). Most of the people that I run into at the Royal are returning guests.

I just loved it!!!

I had a room with sea view and I just loved it. The bathrooms were just like I want them. Lots of space with lots of nice and clean water. The bed and air condition where good. All the people working in the hotel are friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant could have been better, but the egg omelet was very nice for breakfast. Lots of nice restaurant nearby, so not to worry!

Very outdated rooms. Food was terrible. All staff were very nice and tried to be accommodating. Many people around on beach and streets trying to sell things who were somewhat unpleasant when refused. Nothing much to see in immediate area. Beach was great.

This hotel should not be listed as a 4 star resort - it just barely makes a 3 in my books. I unfortunately booked here for 2 weeks. There are about 7 channels, two are spanish only, no sound on the BBC channel and you don't even get the local channels. What they advertise as a king bed is two twin beds put together. The furniture is old and extremely uncomfortable. I would not recommend anyone stay here. LM

The Royal @ Rex Resorts needs an upgrade
Posted Jan 14, 2010
This is one of the oldest Resorts in the Rodney Bay area of St. Lucia. The lease on the property is coming to an end, so the owners are not investing into the property. The Hotel itself is in a great location for dining and shopping pleasure. The exterior was nice, but needed some upgrades. The rooms were nice but aged and there were only 7 channels available on a 42 inch LCD television that they had to replace with a 19 inch projection because it didn't work. The US 110v outlets kept tripping so I made many calls to maintenance to reset. There were no 110v outlets in the bathroom, so an electric shaver was out of the question. I had to remind the maid service 4 out of 8 days to leave wash cloths. The fitness center, well lets just say they may as well not advertise it. Pool was very nice and food at the hotel was just okay, but surrounding restaurants were good. Both ice machines on my side of the hotel were out of order.

In general this hotel was great, yet, I recommend you go for rex not royal if you'd like to save some money. All in all, stay at Rodney bay.

Will Not Return
Posted Jan 27, 2010
St Lucia was expereincing a drought and water was rationed. However, right outside our door they pumped water from 7- midnight and boy was that noisy. On day 4 they moved us. The rooms need major updating and Americans will be troubled by the 1970s outdated bathroom and decor. Service was poor with attitude problems. We expected to have soap, shampoo and lotion replaced when the containers are empty, but did not. We asked for replacements on day 3, but had to hunt down the cleaning staff and they were unfriendly about it. The bartendar was great! But the female waitstaff were sourly and food took 40 minutes to deliver at lunch. The place was deserted (we were the only ones there) so I could not understand why. The location was great!!! But I will not return, nor recommend. There are much better properties in Rodney Bay area. The value is just not there at this resort.

Great Location
Posted Jan 14, 2010
The hotel was in a great location. Within walking distance to many diverse restaurants. The staff was very helpful, and courteous. Room was cleaned everyday and beds turned down every evening. The beach was FANTASTIC! Wonderful swimming, clean, and great for taking walks.
