Better than I expected!Posted Apr 15, 2015
A great trip. I don't go in for big all-inclusive resorts, I prefer something a bit more low-key and intimate but I wanted something easy for just me and my 10 and 13 year olds so I wouldn't have to worry about where we were going to eat and when, or researching activities, etc. I was pleasantly surprised by the St. James. We had a great room overlooking the sea in the top floor of the 500s. The buffet always had something for each of us. Waiting in line in the morning to book the other restaurants was a pain, but I didn't mind, and you can book 3 days in advance. I found the food in the fish restaurant on the pier to be the weakest of the choices, which is a shame because the view is so nice. It was great to have so many choices of activities right at the resort, but with no fuss and no one pushing anything on us. We got a big kick out of joining in the water aerobics every day. I definitely recommend Joy's Cruise which you book right on the beach--fun scenic boat ride, bathing in mud from the volcano, washing it off in a waterfall, followed by lunch at Joy's house and then snorkeling. Bring cash to pay for the cruise ($100/adult), otherwise you have to stop in town during the trip and run your credit card through as Joy is not officially part of the resort. Another tip: try to fly right into Castries airport, which is only 5 minutes away. We flew there via Trinidad. The international airport at Vieux Fort is quite far from the resort. Kids loved their vacation.

Ok stay - would not stay againPosted Apr 1, 2015
The hotel was clean but I had the following problems: - There is no water in the rooms to drink. The hotel staff told us we would have to buy a bottle at the gift shop (at a ridiculous price) and then they could refill it if needed. This is ridiculous, this hotel is all inclusive and they skimped out on water. - Room service was charged apart. Again, another ridiculous thing when the hotel is all inclusive. Also, all meals had to be finished at the restaurant and could not be taken back to the rooms. - Beach drink service was extremely slow. They had 2 staff members to serve the entire beach, drinks took a very long time and it was difficult to find someone to bring you a drink. - The line to schedule a dinner reservation was enormous. There was no use of technology either (the lady was booking reservations on paper in a big folder for each restaurant) so this took a very long time. Overall, the service was not worth the cost of the hotel.

A Quality All Inculsive ResortPosted Mar 29, 2015
Pros: Food is very good for an all inclusive resort
Cons: Dining reservation system should be re-evalutated - difficult to get desired restaurants and times
Location: There are plenty of activities on site but the daily excursion to the volacano and waterfall is well done. The Friday night dinner in town is a must
The hotel staff are very friendly and want you to feel welcome. New ownership continues to make improvements in hopes of making this a 5 star resort. The island is safe and there is plenty to see and do. The resort offers all types of water activites as well as daily games. Tennis courts are in very good shape. The nightly shows are entertaining. The manager (Andrew) at Bambou is superb !! Jafri at the health club is great to work with.

Smaller, more mellow resort.Posted Mar 20, 2015
1. One one hr 15 min ride from airport. 2. $70-85 taxi ride from the airport. They do negotiate some. 3. Food good. 4. Lots of stairs and hills to maneuver. 5. Beach area is lovely, but small. 6. Lots of middle age couples and families with babies... Perfect for us. 7.One bartender (?Ferland, or something close) needs to be more friendly and smile a bit... Only employee we encountered that did not exude friendliness. 8. Very windy, but kept you cooler in warm weather. 9. Rains nearly every day, but passes by quickly. No need to leave the beach while we were there. 10. Lots of beach activities, or do nothing at all...

Nice hotel, close to the beachPosted Mar 11, 2015
Pros: Staff was great; housekeeping was very good and quick; close proximity to the beach; water sports were all included; great bartenders and drinks.
Cons: Rooms and restaurants. Rooms definitely need updating and restaurants need a better variety.
Location: Only a 10 minute drive from the shopping areas; snorkeling was nearby.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 6 days/5 nights in the beginning of March. It was about an hour and 15 min drive from the airport, a very scenic view. The staff was great, super friendly, more friendly then at any other all inclusive we have stayed at. I wouldn't rate it a 5 star hotel as there is much that needs to be updated. The rooms were very outdated and halfway through our stay we got a notification that our locks had to be changed, so we got back from the beach and had to walk all the way back to the lobby to get new keys. Aside from this, the restaurants were only ok. Our favorite was Bambou and the restaurant on the water (can't remember the name). The Palms was good for breakfast and lunch, but I didn't love it for dinner. Night life is really lacking at this resort. The only thing they had every night was live music, which was good, but it got old after a few nights. The beach was nice, never seemed to have trouble getting a chair no matter what time we went. The pool seemed to be more busy at times then the beach. We've been to all inclusives in Aruba and Punta Cana, and although I found the island of St Lucia to be 10x more beautiful then both, this hotel left a bit to be desired. I'd definitely go back to St Lucia, but would probably stay somewhere else.

The perfect family holiday!Posted Jan 5, 2015
Pros: The staff made the place. From the restaurants and bars to the child care and the beach, always a smile!
Cons: Entertainment, modernising the rooms and bathrooms.
Location: Quite far from everything, but we used Joy's speedboats to get to other beaches for snorkelling, mud baths and waterfalls.
Amazing people, amazing weather amazing island, very caring staff, excellent child care, excellent sport facilities.

Good hotel with the beachPosted Dec 29, 2014
The hotel is clean, comfortable, staff is very friendly and accomodating. The food is OK in the buffet, but pretty good in a-la-cart restaurants (dinner only, reservation is needed). Very good location for water sports as the sea is very calm in spite of the wind.

Not a luxury hotel, but clean and a friendly staffPosted Dec 28, 2014
The resort needs a little touch up, but the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Don't go for the food.

Exploring CaribbeanPosted Dec 25, 2014
Pros: Greenery of the territory.
Cons: Food is the main drawback. I found literally nothing spectacular in the restaurants.
Location: The hotel is on the Caribbean coast, so you will enjoy the warm and green sea. Beware of jellies - saw one in December, but only one.
It's my second trip over the islands. Last year went to Antigua. I'm pleasantly surprised each time at the friendliness of staff, amazing atmosphere, wonderful weather and sea. Take a note that St.Lucia is quite a large island compared to others. It takes 1h20mins to get from the airport to the hotel and the road is all hilly. But it's worth it. St.Lucia is amazingly lush and green, would recommend Souffrier adventure tour (you will find in the hotel for $100). Hotel itself is pleasant - true simple Caribbean style. Beach is a gem with palms on it so that you will always find shade without the need to haunt for an umbrella. Water sports included (except for jet-ski), so enjoy water-ski, kayaking, surfing lessons. Overall do a lot of sport :)
