“rethink rex resorts”
food was mediocre; service was slow at best; most of service staff did not smile, but those who did were really friendly; if you are thinking of staying here, rethink rex resorts;
“will probably go back”
hotel needs a bit of tlc great location and can walk to shops bars etc
“I would have rather stayed in a motel”
When arriving to our resort, and I use the word resort loosely, we thought it was just going to be fabulous from what they advertised. The guest service manager was there to greet us. We never saw her again. The guest service line was always busy, so we could never set up activities and when we wanted any kind of help from the staff it was near impossible. We felt like we were incoveincing them. Unless it was a yes or no question you would get nothing. We purchased all inclusive and that was a mistake unless you like the choice of rude service and buffet meal. They supposedly offered three restaurants, but one only was really open in all nine days we were there. Asking for drinks at the bar made you feel so tense to the point that you didn't want a drink they even had a large trash can with flies everywhere right nest to bar seating that went for food as well. Getting water was out of the question. At the one restaurant that was open you could order off the menu but the staff made it clear that you put them out for some reason. Our most memorable moments were outside of the resort and we almost dreading coming back for the night. If it wasn't for a taxi driver that we met that arranged our tours we would have never gotten to see anything and would've left with a bad taste in our mouth. It was stressing at this resort and don't understand how we paid so much for so very little. If me and my husband didn't have each other it would have been beyond miserable. Never again!!!
“Peaceful and relaxing visit”
I had a great time in St. Lucia and I thought the people at the hotel were very accomodating and friendly. They went above and beyond to assist me. I would recommned this hotel to others and would certainly go back. I had a great time.
“Extremely Impressed”
I had a wonderful 2nd anniversary stay at this hotel. Even though things weren't always good with the room at times they promptly changed my room, they were always pleasant, informative and just generally nice. The food was great and their customer service was excellent even when the lights went out in the restaurant, everyone used their cell phones to give light until we got the candles. It was excellent. I recommend to anyone!
“Would not recommend the St. Lucian”
The service was wonderful on St. Lucia and everyone on the island was very friendly except for at the Rex St. Lucian. The staff at the front desk and at the beachside restaurant were surly and treated us like we were a pain! The island was unfortunately in a drought while we were there and the St. Lucian shut off all of the water between the hours of 10am-5:30pm (and up to 7pm some nights). No showers, sink water or flushing toilets! There were no flushing toilets on the premise during those hours! While we were on the island I looked at many other hotels because I was searching for wedding sites and hotels for guests to stay at and the St. Lucian was the only hotel that shut off the water to its guests. Also, the TV in the room did not work and though they sent someone to fix it we still had only black and white fuzz and no sound out of the tv. The blow dryer also did not work. We loved St. Lucia in spite of the Rex St. Lucian but I would never go back to Rex St. Lucian nor recommend it to anyone!
“Great spot on the beach...”
...but that's about it. It's a long and dangerous drive from the main airport in Vieux Fort. The buildings and grounds needed updating. It sometimes felt like the staff was annoyed we were there. We had to arrange our own tours and activities. Our "all-inclusive" plan only let us eat at one restaraunt which was frequented by birds feeding on the scraps left behind by an inattentive wait staff. And despite being on the "all-inclusive" plan, there was a daily charge (cash only) for using beach chairs and umbrellas. We tried several times to use the watersports equipment only to find that the staff there would often go to lunch and not return. Granted, our room overlooked the water and was about 50 yards from the beach, but it definitely was not as advertised.
“This is a 2-star not a 3-star hotel -- poor service throughout”
The hotel was described in different places as a 3-star hotel with a 5-star beach. This wasn't true. It's a 2-star hotel. Older and run down. I've been to St. Lucia 6 times and to about 15 different Caribbean islands. The Rex St. Lucian is not a 3-star hotel. Food was poor. I at breakfast there the first morning, and that was enough to convince me the food was not very good. How could there not be good fresh fruit in St. Lucia?? Had to eat at outside restaurants for all other meals. Service was very poor - people were simply not helpful. I ended up having to leave the hotel to get services. - no free Internet access - no drink service on beach - poor bar service Room was run down, leaking faucet, shower rod pealing, etc.
“Excellent location - worth the money”
My wife and i enjuoyed our stay at the Rex, St. Lucian. Overall, we recommend the hotel, but did experience several issues requiring attention: 1. Bathroom fixtures were old, not functioning properly, causing water to leak regularly from the faucets in both the sink and the shower/tub. 2. Severe water shortage on the island which mandated water shut-off at regulated times throughout the hotel. Of course, this is not the fault of management. 3. TV not working. This was promptly fixed upon report. 4. Never did figure out how to turn on the lamps at bedside, but didn't really need them. Hotel location is ideal, beachfront, close to many good restaurants and a small shopping center with grocery store. Glad we did not choose the "all inclusive" plan, as we like to walk around, have a drink, find a restaurant and enjoy the experience. Try "Buzz" and "Red Snapper" for sumptuous seafood. If it's a high-class meal you want, you will not be disappointed with "The Edge", located about 200 yards from the hotel. We found the personality of the island a little less-friendly than other places (this is our ninth island), but very sincere once you break the ice with a smile and greeting. If you enjoy the outdoors and are in good shape, be sure to climb Gros Piton with Gros Piton Tours. It is spectacular, but arduous four mile hike (take good hiking shoes, not sandals). The guides are local folks trying hard to earn a living.
“What a Shame!!!!”
This hotel sits on perhaps the best hotel site on the island; right on beautiful Reduit beach, and easy walking distance to all the best restaurants in Rodney Bay. The location is unbeatable, but that's the only thing good I can say about this hotel. It is outdated and poorly maintained; rotting structures and abandonned ammenities abound. Pools filled in, bars no longer serviceable, and fences and other structures in disrepair. The very door to my room had been replaced with a makeshift replacement that wouldn't close properly. The A/C worked intermittently. Worst of all was the service. A couple next door had dirty room service dishes which sat outside their door for two and a half days until I demanted that they be removed...Nasty! It was apparent to me that the staff here were not very happy; totally opposite from the friendly hosts that I've grown accustomed to at other accomodations in St. Lucia. I heard lots of guests complaining. All in all, the place needs to be completely renovated and upgraded, staff included, before I'll try it again.
