Great location in Rodney Bay for less money

Pros: The beach, location, staff
Cons: bathroom in room
The hotel is in a beautiful location and on a wonderful beach. There are lots of restaurants nearby as well. We didn't do all inclusive and we liked being able to visit many of the local restaurants. We did eat at the restaurant once and the food was okay, but not amazing. The common areas are kept up pretty nicely, and they try to present the resort rooms nicely with flowers and such when you arrive, but the rooms need to be updated (more-so the bathrooms).

We were supposed to stay at the Rex St Lucian for a few nights before spending a week at another resort in St Lucia but instead we spent the 2 nights at the Royal Rex. We had lots of issues with the Rex St Lucian, we got there early (around noon) and expected to have to wait till 3pm for check in. Our room was not ready till about 3:30, once we got to our room we had a leaky air conditioning unit that left a big puddle all over the tile floor, we informed the front desk and they said they would change our room, about an hour later we were given another room. We got in the room around supper time so I sat down to watch the news...the TV didn't work! I went down to the front desk and informed them of our problem and was informed that they had no other room to put us into. We sat around for nearly another hour before a manager decided to put us up in their sister property the Rex Royal. Overall the Rex St Lucian should be considered you basic run down hotel room. The Rex Royal was nice but sure not a extremely fancy hotel that could demand high prices. Both properties were almost empty, there seemed to only be about 50 guests between the 2 properties. We will NEVER stay at either of these properties again.

Lovely St. Lucia keeps us wanting to return
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: The lovely location
Cons: na
Location: Close to everything and its quiet when we needed to recharge
We were so impressed that we returned to St. Lucia and the Rex for the second year in a row. We were again treated royally and the adventure to Sulphur Springs and the volcanic mudbath and snorkeling were fantastic. You go St. Lucia. We definitely will come again.

Great location

Pros: Location
Cons: Lack of beach umbrella
Location: Perfect
The location is perfect. The beach is wonderful and it is located near nice bars and restaurants. We had breakfast there, nice and fairly priced (we did not have the meal plan, and tried several great restaurants nearby. The room was nice, they decorated with flowers upon our arrival. The staff is very nice and extremely helpful. The hotel is nice but needs some renovation. Overall very pleasant and well priced. They seem to have some issues with beach umbrella (not enough for the guests). I would recommend it.

Great location, lacks maintenance & true service
Posted Jan 2, 2012 on Hotels.com
The location of the hotel is great, directly on the beach in Rodney Bay. Many restaurants and some shopping in easy walking distance. The room was nice and clean, decorated with flowers on the bed when I entered... Great view of pool and ocean. The hotel is a bit worn down, some paint and general maintenance would be good. The room door does not shut out the noise from the hallway. One large roach spotted in my bathroom. Hotel service is hap hazard. Check in procedures are lengthy and not too friendly. Hotel takes deposits for many different things: 300$ for future consumption, 200$ for beach towel and 100$ for your room key. I wish they trust their customers more and leave this practice. The service in the bar area was very slow. Waiters ignored my presence at the table, and only after going to the bar and ordering was I served. White wine was luke warm and poor quality. Tables were dirty and furniture was old and stained. Not impressed by the bar, which could have been so nice, giving directly on the water.

Service, or lack of, at the St Lucian by Rex Hotel

Pros: Eventually they gave us a 'Beach Room' that we had paid for, on the ground floor - otherwise it was going to be on the second floor (third storey)
Cons: Attitude of the staff; rather 'run down'.
Location: Probably the best beach, but it means that when a cruise ship comes into port, the beach is crowded!
Unfortunately the hotel staff do not understand the meaning of the word "service"! I always had the impression that it was the customer's fault!! On one occasion I asked for a beach umbrella (as asked to do so by a large notice in the hotel) - they said they didn't have any - they were all broken!! I told them hwat i thought of that, asked to see the manager, and eventually was given one, but then the 'Company' supplying umbrellas on the beach itself, wanted to charge me for it because they said it was one of theirs!!!!! This caused a lot of distress to myself and my wife; the next day the hotel gave me what appeared to be the only ONE they had - there were no others on the beach, except those supplied by a Beach rental company! Most days they made up the room around 10-11 o'clock, but on Sunday, because we were not ready to leave the room at 08:50, the room was not cleaned etc!

Would return but would not take the all-inclusive

Pros: Spa
Cons: Quality of food at the Marina Restaurant
Location: Spectacular, right on the beach :)
The hotel itself was nice. The location was perfect, right on the beach. The only issues I had was the quality of food at the Marina Restaurant was not satisfactory however my friends did go to the oriental restaurant and they said it was fantastic, so I guess it depends on the restaurant you decide to go to. The drinks offered for the all-inclusive was ok, could have been mixed better. The service was fantastic for the most part, very helpful. I only had one bad encounter with a very rude and unhelpful women at the receptionist desk but generally it was great. Unfortunately due to lack of time actually spent in the hotel I cannot comment on the water-sports. The Royal Hotel Spa was simply superb, the personnel there were welcoming and just amazing, thoroughly enjoyed my spa experience. The live entertainment on Friday and Saturday night at the hotel was very relaxing and entertaining. Overall a good experience!!!

Not Value for Money
Posted Jan 27, 2012
Pros: Checkin out
Cons: Everything
Location: Beautiful beach
Well to be honest took this hotel since wanted to be in Rodney Bay and with the cricket going on this was the only place with rooms and soon after checking in was clear why. Says it is 3star but that is a push - hotel needed major renovations - everything was tired - food was okay - as long as your tastes are not too advanced and even the selection of fruit was not what i have seen at any of the other hotels that I usually stay at. All in all - not worth the money they charged.
