Pros: see above
Cons: improve water pressure
Location: Orient Beach, Grand Case resturants, Marigot shopping, snorkeling, scuba diving, water sports i.e. sailing, wind surfing
This was a restful relaxing time with a pool which we had alone much of the time. The two mile beach was only a few minutes away and the constant sound of the waves was like music. The room was pleasant and we kept the air condition off because there was such a nice breeze. The staff are great, the gardens are beautiful and the room and patio are private enough that much of the time it can be enjoyed in the natural.

Place to feel and to be special...Posted Nov 18, 2013
Pros: We liked the setup and service.
Cons: Didn't like nude next door guy (must be 70+ years old). Coudnt use the pool because of him.
Location: Great beach. Nearby fully stacked European super market with amazing wine selection.
With a private pool to every 4 rooms in a villa like setting, makes you feel special and part of the %1 crowd. Our room had a small kitchenette like area area to allow us build our special healthy snakcs and keep the many French cheese we got from the nearby supermarket. I would say overall it is a great hotel. HOWEVER, none to the fault of the hotel, seas at Orient Beach are very rough. That you cannot swim or stay in the water. So basically it is a beach/sand life if that's what you like. Many people just tanning and drinking (a lot I have seen)... Another fact about the location is, we enjoy 6am walks on the beacj, But beach was taken over by totally nude greiatric crowd made it 'discusting' for us and we stopped going after the 2nd day. Instead drove to Phillipsburg Front Street and rented chairs and umbrella for $10 for the whole day and had a FANTASTIC time. When we booked we were told it included Internet. During checkin we were told Internet was only in the lobby (a different building) and room net was $10 a day. After showing expedia advert, they gave us a free net in the room. That's proper service.

Esmeralda - sanity next to insanity.Posted Jul 15, 2013
Pros: Location and amenities.
Location: Directly on Orient Beach, but away from much of the daily "hula baloo" (quieter). Close to Grand Case and Pinel Island.
Very nice hotel located on Orient Beach. It is within walking distance of the "zoo" some refer to as Orient Beach (with daily visits from cruise ship patrons and lively bars), but far enough away to provide a quiet and enjoyable escape. Again, you can walk into town for dinner, or take a 7-minute drive to Grand Case for some of the best cooking in the Caribbean. Best of all worlds. Would reccommend the Esmeralda Resort.

Best quiet hotel on Orient Bay. period.Posted Jul 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
If you speak French and want to stay in the best quiet hotel on Orient Bay, this is the place. Parking is extremely limited, so we took a cab from the airport and walked to the various eateries along the beach ( several miles of walking per day, but we love that ) Quiet, laid back, multi-lingual. If you only speak English and want a drunken, loud, crowded, frat party, - stay on the Dutch side, don't come here !!

Great spot on Orient BayPosted Jul 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is a terrific hotel on Orient bay that's far enough from the crowds further down the beach. The location is especially good if you want to escape the cruise ship crowds. The bungalows are very private so your neighbours aren't that close. The cats are what I like the best about the Esmeralda and it's always good to feed them. If you don't like cats, they won't come around.

Great privacy, our own pool!Posted Jun 28, 2013
Pros: This resort is the loveliest for the privacy. In the low season (summer) we were the sole occupants of a 4-plex villa along with its own pool.
Cons: Maybe a cushier bed and comfier deck chairs on the porch. Otherwise, it was awesome.
Location: You can go snorkeling, kite surfing, para-sailing. Have a beach massage, go shopping at fancy stores in Marigot, take a ferry to another island.
We celebrated our anniversary here 10 years ago and have not stopped coming back. Our most recent stay was as lovely as our first. We have our favorite villa of the 18 (#53) and the staff helps us get it each year. The breakfast is delicious and French. Restaurants are an easy walk for dinner in the village or for a fancier gourmet meal it's a quick drive into Grand Case. Our day begins at 7:30 with breakfast, back to the villa for a swim and reading, hit the beach around 10, margarita at 11, return to the villa at 3. We keep our cheeses and bottles of wine and water in the kitchenette to consume late afternoon. It's a lovely, restful, quiet place.

Nice hotel close to the beachPosted Jun 26, 2013
Pros: I liked staying in more of a boutique hotel, not a super big resort. The location to Orient Bay beaches was exceptional.
Cons: Just little things...maybe a more comfortable chair/sofa in the room. Shampoo was not replenished after 1 day, more towels would have been nice.
Location: Plenty to do on Orient Bay. You can walk the beach, all kinds of water sports you can pay to do. Other towns very close by.
I loved our 2 night stay at the Esmeralda Resort. It is a lovely, quaint resort in a wonderful location. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The continental breakfast was delicious and in a beautiful restaurant setting. The walk to Coco Beach was just a minute or so. It was extremely low key, quiet place. Please know that beaches are clothing optional!

Second visit as good as the first!Posted May 28, 2013
Pros: Nice rooms, private pools, short walk to Coco beach, friendly staff.
Cons: Pricey -- but you get what you pay for.
Location: Perfect location on the best beach in St. Martin.
This was our second stay at the Esmeralda, and it was just as wonderful as the first, three years ago. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, rooms are very clean, grounds are beautiful, food delicious. The short distance to the beach, with the cost of beach chairs and umbrella already included in your stay, is amazing. The private pools are great as well. The Esmeralda is definitely the nicest resort in the area -- you may have to pay a bit more, but it is worth it.

Hotel so-so but close access to nice beachPosted Apr 24, 2013
Pros: Easy access to/from a nice beach location.
Cons: Don't get room 534 or Bldg Unit 53! At back of property next to a dumpster from adjacent property - noisy all hrs of the night. No View at all!
Location: Great location access to beach and the food (breakfast) was good. Beach service good.
Hotel so-so. No views from room. Great location (short walk to Orient Beach).
