“Great hotel, not the greatest location.”

We wanted to stay near the market in Marigot, and this was a great hotel for that purpose. However, the market is only really at its best on Saturday, so perhaps a different location would have been better. We only stayed two nights, so it was fine, but I think if I were to stay longer I would want to be nearer to other things (Front Street shopping, perhaps). The surrounding neighborhood looks a bit rough, and I suspect it might be, but we were not bothered when walking out a night. There are some restaurants near the "market" that are quite good, but more choices on other parts of the island. The hotel itself is quite nice, and the food is good. I was quite happy for the price and surprised at how pretty the place was.

“it was okay, but i expected more”

I would say that the hotel was just okay. IOn arrival, the room looked different on the internet. I expected it to be more upscale. The television was very small and i had difficulty looking at it. I also had difficulty getting an iron because there were none left. Such a hotel should have numerous irons in stock. There was no ironing board and i was unable to access wifi from the room. The bathroom was fantastic, i loved it. I had no problem with the cleanliness of the room. Breakfast was also good.

“3 Star Quality”

I chose this hotel because it was in walking distance to Marigot as my husband and I like to walk to different places and not just be stuck in the resort. We encountered beautiful rainbows from our oceanfront balcony and got some outstanding photos. The room on the other hand looked dated and the pillows/mattress were icky and yellowed. The air conditioner works, but kicks off approximately every hour, so you manually have to turn it back on. Try the chocolate filled croissants for breakfast. The service at the hotel wasn’t very helpful. There was no one to help us with things to do other than the gentlemen that was sitting across from the front desk renting cars. My recommendation is to walk a few minutes to the Tourisms building. They were extremely helpful and provided many recommendations/brochures of things to do on the island. Keep in mind if you are looking to do more then laying on the beach, Marigot is pretty much DEAD when there are no cruise ships coming in. We were extremely disappointed when we walked around on Sunday afternoon and 90% of the stores and restaurants were closed ! We took a cab over to Philipsburg and were relieved to see that there was one cruise ship that came in everything was open til 2 pm. Although the French side has some beautiful beaches (keep in mind topless and even nude is allowed), I would recommend the Dutch side. They seemed friendlier and Phillipsburg offered more shopping and casinos as well.

Area recommendations
I would recommend taking a ferry to one of the other islands. We went to Anguilla for the day. Anguilla is about the size of St. Martin but is less touristy. It is British owned. Our cab driver took us to Shoal Bay/Beach. Very beautiful and peaceful. There are a couple restaurants on the beach. Cost was $10 for an umbrella and two lounge beach chairs. We really enjoyed our day trip.

“Great Place to Stay”

Nice place to stay and modestly priced. Excellent location - close to Marigot market and restaurants. Probably the best location to be in since everywhere else was pretty lifeless. Hotel was nice, clean, friendly staff, breakfast by the ocean. I would definitely go back.

Area recommendations
We drove around the entire island and I was happy that we stayed in Marigot, within walking distance from the daily outdoor market and restaurants. Also close to Orient Beach which was excellent.

“Very good choice for Marigot”

If you prefer Marigot on the French side to the big hotels on the Dutch side, as we do, this is an ideal location. Great harbor view, Anguilla view, fairly short walk to the center of Marigot, very short walk to the marina area on Simpson Bay with many very good restaurants, etc. Great for a first or last night of a sailing trip.

Area recommendations
This is ideal location.

“Great for short stays”

The hotel is very good, with decent rooms, a very nice restaurant, and lots of fresh air. One side faces the beach overlooking Marigot bay with fantastic views, and the wonderful sound of surf. The other side faces a boat rework yard and the busiest road in town. By all means, pay the upgrade to avoid hearing traffic all night (especially motor scooters). The hotel is a short walk (4-6 blocks) from the center of town, although sidewalks are sometimes non-existent. This is a great hotel location if you are catching a cruise to/from Marigot.

Area recommendations
Marigot is not much of a destination, unless you are passing through to somewhere else. The residents are generally very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, there are many closed stores and restaurants, especially along the waterfront. Shopping was not spectacular, especially if you are looking for bargains. Shops are frequently small and cramped.

“Not a place for someone wanting the tourist atmosphere”

There is not a lot of tourist attractions around Hotel Beach Plaza. The Dutch side of the island has more for the younger generation. Also, it is hard to communicate with some staff if you speak English as most of the staff speaks only French.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the Dutch side over the French side of the island as there are more restaurants, beaches, etc. Also the Dutch side is all the US dollar whereas the French side has prices all in Euro.
