“Hotel La Plantation”

I have only one complaint - the bed which was advertised as queen happened to be 2 small beds bunked together. Other than that, the hotel is very fine.

“As expected”

“Romantic charm”

Very romantic, classic Carribean, courteous staff, exquisite dinner (foie gras), close to the beach and Orient beach. Fresh bouganvilla pedals spread around room, and other charming touches. Perfectly clean. Private patio. Would definitely return.

“Pleasantly surprised--what a charming place!”

What a great find! Superb location (short walk to the beach), very clean, quiet, and super nice staff! We were upgraded from a studio to a suite and it was wonderful to have a living room and kitchen. Not the best view (you can somewhat see the beach), but we were barely in our room during the day anyway. It was a perfect place for the price. If you stay here, I would 100% recommend renting a car unless you're planning to spend all your time in Orient Bay. Traffic can be horrible but the freedom of having a car makes it worthwhile. Oh, and Yvette's is the best locally-owned restaurant on the island ;) Try the lobster on Mondays, but be prepared for the price!

Area recommendations

The French side--way more chill and less trashy than the Dutch side. Not for party-goers but nicer for couples.

“7 years in a row and still satisfied!”

Every year we think about looking at other places but we always come back to LaPlantation. Most of the staff know us and are always pleased to see us return. We love the convenience of how close it is to Orient and the local restaurants. And Grand Case is 5 minutes away too! Love the morning breakfast and our rooms have always been more than satisfactory!

“Basics supplied but not a plush stay.”

The Cottage style is nice and seclusive, large and clean, no fluff. very basic. No veiw of beach. Bed was comfortable, be prepared to do alot of walking, very spaced out like a neighborhood, breakfast is fruit and bread, hard boilded eggs w/ a nat problem. Customer service was ready to please and nice. Mesqitoes a problem, cleaning lady leaves door open while cleaning everyday and fills the room w/ them. Net is provided on bed and helps but bring spray. Shower head and stall was the best. Simple but nice. Like having a kitchenette for cold beverages and medicines... Rooms are isolated and quiet. But we didn't have anyone in the duplex we stayed in. Probably considered very nice place by the islanders but for us spoiled americans it's a downgrade per plushness.

Area recommendations

Would not stay on Dutchside, if I ever go back it would be Orient Beach for the activities and beauty (water) or Grande Case for the hotels and resteurants, but expect everything else to be trashed and run down on the island.

Dining

All the food we had was delicious on all parts of the island. Orient Beach is Beautiful and food on the beach is great. Pizza!! Expect to spend $100 a day in food atleast. (2 meals). Dutch side does seem to be cheaper. Liked the Carib beer alot and I'm not a beer drinker.

“Didn't want to leave”

This was the best vacation we've been on in years. Everything was beautiful. Had a great time at the hotel, the beach, the activities, the shopping. The whole package was great and very relaxing.

“Our second-home on St. Martin”

The hotel was excellent as usual. This is our fourth year in a row staying here during our St. Martin vacation. The personnel are friendly and helpful with very little turnover. One minor, minor change we noticed this year which disappointed us somewhat: they have switched from real ham at breakfast to some kind of chopped ham product (presumably to save money). We hope they will go back to the real thing by the time we return next year.

When to go

We have always gone during the middle of February and the weather has been spectacular.

Dining

This year, we tried Le Cottage and Spicey in Grand Case. Our meals were excellent and the service was very good. In fact, there are so many wonderful restaurants in Grand Case that we seldom venture farther.

Outdoors or beach

Of course, Orient Beach is the whole reason we go to St. Martin. The condition of the beach and sand this year was fabulous and the water was a perfect temperature. One hint: get there by 10 a.m. if you want to get a good lounge chair. Happy hour at the Perch Bar starts at 2:30 and drinks are 2-4-1.
