“Not so good.”
The hotel staff ws pretty rude. The hotel beachwas crappy too. We rented a car and drove to other beaches everyday. Additionally, the had the worst concierge in the world! He wasn't there for three days and when he was there, he was horrible...
“Westin St Maarten”
The Westin was pleasant enough, but we referred to it as the 'nearly' hotel because they so nearly (but not quite) got things right. The location is good, and is relatively quiet for the island. You either love it or hate it. Driving to the Westin when you are first time visitors to the island is difficult, as there are literally no signs and the hotels own website shows the location wrongly! The roads in the area are challenging with their potholes and steep gradients. Staff at the hotel are friendly, but not all are naturals when it comes to customer service. The hotel is reasonably new, but does have that tired look in some of the corridors with peeling paint on some ceilings and stained carpets. We had tea/coffee making facilities in the room but they never replenished the tea after day 1 and stopped bringing new paper cups from day 2. If you want to enjoy a little TV at the end of your day, the Westin is not your spot. Very few channels and very fuzzy picture. Why bother with large flat screens when the signal is so poor? Food at the restaurant is good, if a little pricey for a big family, and there are a number of good restaurants around Oyster Bay, we particularly liked Canoa and Big Fish which were cheaper and provided more 'island' feel. Swimming pool is fine but small, two levels and OK pool bar; service around the pool is good, but a bit frustrating to have to hire a cabana ($57) to get any shade as there are no big sunbrellas available. Nearly....
“One night stay”
Spent one night while waiting villa rental. Nice hotel, excellent beach and pool, beds comfortable, not much to do nearby.
“Beautiful Hotel Terrible staff needs new carpet & cable!”
This hotel is on a beautiful property in the middle of nowhere east of west bubble _! We spent $400 on taxis bc the rental cars required a $800-$1000 deposit. I was miserable here. The staff was so rude & unwelcoming that I was afraid to ask a question. My fiancee & I fought over whose turn it was to ask a question bc the staff was rude & insulting. I was so upset abt the check-in disrespect that we made reservations on my iphone & left the next day & spent 2 days in Anguilla- eventho our room was fully paid for at the Westin. The morning of my birthday I got dressed up in a simple white dress & heard the female servers in the buffet line talking abt me saying "where does she think she's going" -I was actually on my way to ANOTHER HOTEL! It was a beautiful hotel we tried to enjoy it but any interaction with any female employee was painful. If you must stay here only speak to the men the women are all rude & look like they are angry to be at work & mad that you are bothering them w/ your foolishness. If you want to visit the region save up some more money & go to Anguilla! St Marteen is expensive beautiful beaches, clothing optional - I was naked alot- great french food! Bring lots-o-cash!! We spent 1 week & spent 3K not including hotel & airfare! Best part of the trip was Anguilla! If I were to return I would rent a house & a car & stay closer to the city part & just drive to the beach! Grand Case is a must see! Westin will leave you stuck can't walk 2 anywhere!
“Great Staff, Hotel a little warn”
Hotel is a little warn and needs a face lift, i.e. carpet, fixtures and paint
“we went to spend the weekend in thata hotel i will not recommend at all, shame !!”
never agian. the hotel was too far from airport - no reason to drive about 50 min to the hotel, hotel room was dirty the whole time we stayed there , didnt enjoy anything there its really a shame cos i never go back to st martin due the bad experience in the hotel :(
“Hot water issue”
This was a beautiful hotel with a great beach as well. The location of the hotel was convenient to the areas we drove to. Our only issue was that of hot water for one night and then the following morning. This put a damper on an otherwise great vacation. It was more the lackadaisical attitude of the staff than the water itself. I don't think that I would recommend this hotel for that reason alone.
“Beautiful hotel, ocean is dangerous”
What a beautiful hotel! The ocean current is dangerous as the sea meets the ocean and is quite turbulent. Be very careful when snorkeling as the drift is significant....not safe for children without close supervision. Location is away from "town" but at most a 30 minute drive.
“Sunday at the Westin becomes a "public pool"...”
We loved out stay at the Westin, for 2 families with small children - it works for us. The kids & the grown ups loved the pool and beach (although the wave is extremely rough - good for surfers). There are 2 main restaurants, however we had all our dinners at Ocean restaurant as it was convenient. If you read other reviews, the Westin is pretty much on its own in the middle of no where (3 mins cab ride to a small market, 10 mins to a larger one and 35 mins to Phillipsburg - the main town). The food was decent and the wait staff was attentive. The breakfast buffet is the best - only charged the adults! We liked out rooms, however, we got a fake upgrade to a obstructed "Ocean View" Room from Resort, no difference. Tip 1: Get flights to St. Maarten to land around 2pm and have the taxi drop you off at the town supermarket for water! (Big liter for only 1 USD vs. 2 for small at hotel) Tip 2: Make plans to eat at Phillipsburg - Chippies is really good! Tip 3: Negotiate with your taxi driver! (we negotiated an exclusive with 1 driver & he picked us up anywhere ,even gave us his cell phone!) HUGE CON: We DIDN'T know on "Sundays", our hotel opens to the general public. The non guests comes for the "Brunch" and stays the entire time to use the pool and beach. The usual calm pool area became a traffic jam. Sunday was our last day, thus we DID NOT enjoy our last moments. We were unfortunate, a large group of teens came and took over the entire pool. The real hotel guests left.
“Sometimes Impressed and sometimes not”
The facility is very nice and well kept. The service was often good but not consistently good. it seemed like the staff needed more training so everyone knew how to provide the service that Westin is famous for providing. The hotel often ran short of many things like mixers at the bar, washclothes, certain food items etc. They also need to post on their web site to rent a car!! The resort is located between towns so you have to use taxis to go anywhere and they are expensive. i highly recommend renting a small car to tour the island and travel to other nice locations besides the hotel.
