Turned out to be a good choice

Posted May 18, 2015
Pros: Most everything.
Cons: Music in the Beach Café. Parking.
Location: Very busy location so hanging out on the beach is most popular of course. Fort De Soto park was a nice place to get away from the rat race.
We stayed in room 239 for 3 nights when it was 90 degrees and sunny. Room 239 has a few palm trees outside the window so the beach view is partially blocked. Small bathroom but everything else was fine. AC worked good. All the staff were always friendly and polite. Only used one of the pools once very quickly because it seemed like a bunch of stuffy old people were sitting around at that time. This is one of the widest areas of the beach so it's about an 1/8 mile walk from the hotel to the water. Worth it though because it's such a nice beach and warm water. Smokey Joes Restaurant at the hotel is a good lively place to eat and drink. We had waiter Alex who is a dead ringer for Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad! Looks, personality - everything. Weird but fun. The Beach Café also on sight has good breakfast but not very good evening entertainment. Some band played Jimmy Buffett music and they also had karaoke while we were there. Walk along the beach sidewalk in the evening and you can hear a whole variety of music playing at different hotels. Parking is terrible every where along the beach. At this hotel when people leave their parking spot they put an orange cone in the space to save it. I tried this once only to come back and someone had parked there anyway. Ignore the cones and just move them and park in that space.

Great view from our room, staff were very helpful

Posted May 18, 2015
Pros: .the staff
Cons: Just informing your guests when you are shutting down things ie) pool and when doing renovations that will disrupt there stay
Location: Close to the beach, easy access to lots of restaurants, shops and the trolley car that goes up and down Golf Blvd
Great stay at the Bilmar, staff were very helpful especially Molly at the front desk, I wanted to surprise my husband with tickets to the rays and yankee game and she helped set up tickets for me. To Carmen who keep our room really clean and vacuumed from all the sand. They also were doing some renovations at the restaurant by installing an awning on the outside wall but they forgot to inform their guests of this and we were the room right above the restaurant - very noisy in the afternoon when you were trying to take a heat nap.

We enjoyed our stay except for the bicycles! My husband is 6'6" and the bikes were for smaller people! The staff was great-Nikkie, Heather and Shawna at the front desk! Alexander and Tony were fabulous too. Can't forget Denise who was setting up for Mothers Day! She was a fantastic worker! We loved our stay completely. Thank you everyone for a great vacation. See you next year.

Great location

Posted May 6, 2015
Pros: Amenities. Supplied beach chairs were great.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We had a gulf front room which was nice except it was the room directly above Sloppy Joes so alls we heard was the huge air conditioning units that were sitting on the roof. The view wasn't obstructed, just a little noisey. Other then that the location was really good. Lots of resturants, shopping and a grocery store close by. We would definitely stay there again.

Pros: The location on the beach is just perfect. We wanted beach access and we got it.
Cons: A comfortable chair in the room would be nice.
Location: Restaurants and treats are all within a short walk. Unfortunately there is little to do after that if you want to take a walk and see a shop or two.
The location was just great. Just a short walk to the water and not overly crowded. Restaurants on site and nearby (just a short stroll) were just great for a snack or a meal. The private company providing the kayaks and paddle boards never were around-the equipment was kept locked-and without them it could not be unlocked. The Bilmar did make it right with us since we had been asking for use all week.

Right on the beach.

Posted May 3, 2015
Pros: Right on the beach
I do not think the hotel is worth the price paid. Hotel was very basic. You had to back up almost to the bathtub to open the bathroom door and get out. On site restaurant was very good. We asked to have a chair replaced on our balcony as it was broken. We came back to the room after over two hours at the beach to find our door to the room "open". The maintenance person had put the night bar across so the door wouldn't close and left it that way. We were totally freaked out and spent a great deal of time checking to make sure nothing was missing. It made it worse as our room was directly at elevator and anyone coming to that floor saw the door open.

Though the hotel has a dated look and feel, it has many amenities and a friendly staff. The hotel is on the beach and close to nearby restaurants. The Middle Ground restaurant, only two blocks away, is a standout. Bazzie's Restaurant at the hotel serves very good food, and they often have great live music day and night. There are two well maintained pools and a relaxing whirlpool. There's also another restaurant at the hotel called Sloppy Joe's. It's on the beach supported by a fun, attentive staff. Not necessarily a standout in terms of food, but a fun place to enjoy a drink and an appetizer.
