Magnuson hotel

Pros: pools and location to St. Pete beaches
Cons: Clean up by the water
Location: Close to St. Pete beach, Fort Desoto park. Neighborhood is not the best. Once you leave the hotel you should drive at least 5 miles west.
I enjoyed the pools and the view. However there is actually no beach unless you can swim in foul smelling yuk. Seems to me some clean up needs to be done by the water. Lots of piled up very smelly seaweed.

Not what expected

Posted Apr 7, 2015
We were surprised when we arrived to find that it was really a motel rather than a hotel. Our room was fine but nothing special. Since we weren't that familiar with St. Petersburg, we thought the location was closer to downtown than it was, but it wasn't bad to drive there. The restaurant for breakfast was quite good (that was the only meal we ate there. The bars were quite noisy, so if you want a place to just have a quiet drink it's best to go somewhere else, or have a drink in your room. Overall, it wasn't a bad place to stay, just not what we expected.

Older facility, decent condition. Worn rooms but comfortable enough. Small man made beach out to shallow, muddy bottom murky water. Nice staff, decent restaurant, broken vending machines.

This place grows on you,

At first we were not too impressed with the 60's retro furnishings and the outside entrances. but the staff and facilities proved to be quite nice. The restaurant was nice for morning breakfast and the dinner was not to bad either. We got a lot more for what we paid for the townhouse was really nice with the spiral staircase. We will defiantly come back.

Location is great but needs a lot of polishing

Needs updating, window unit very annoying and constantly runs. Staff was very nice, Periscopes restaurant was very unprofessional (food was okay). Very disappointed with the quality especially how much I paid to stay there

Rooms were old and not clean. Grounds could also use some updated landscaping. Rooms require extensive updating and more family friendly. Carpets sticky and not installed properly, just cut in and thrown down. Staff pleasant and accommodating. I would not stay here again.

Comfortable stay.

Pros: It's variety of activities and its location.
Location: We enjoyed visiting Fort Desoto Park and its lovely beaches, going biking, kayaking and lovely walking trails. Being near to the city of St. Petersbu
We had a room with a lovely view of the water and we took full advantage of it by watching Dolphins and a wonderful variety of birds fly around the bay. Our room was comfortable, the staff were attentive and we enjoyed swimming in the hotel pools and walking on its beach.

Nice staff. Disgusting hotel

Posted Mar 23, 2015
Cons: The rooms need to be completely gutted.
The staff was great. They were polite and let me extend my checkout. Unfortunately, the place itself was pretty awful. The room smelled like cigarettes and mildew. The floor was sticky. There were no towels in the room. The shower curtain was covered in mold. I could go on.

Adequate stop over

Pros: Staff
Cons: Service in the restaurant and a facelift for the facility.
Location: The location is not in the middle of things. You need to use a car to get to everything. St. Pete's beach is across a bridge with a toll.
I choose this hotel because it was located conveniently. The staff are very accommodating. The rooms and the facility is a bit run down. They ran out of towels at the pool on two occasions. The food at the snack bar was convenient and good for a snack bar. The staff there was very pleasant. The food in the restaurant was good for breakfast but when I stopped in for an evening snack it was disappointing. On both occasions, the service was very slow as the restaurant seems understaffed.
