Well, the picture of the hotel certainly calls out charm and grace. Upon entering the property, the lobby area is small, nicely decorated, comforting and inviting. We knew the property had no elevators, so the walk up 2 flights of stairs to our room wasn't unexpected or difficult.
The room had issues, though. The shades on the windows were ripped and would not roll or unroll easily; the clawfoot bathtub looked cool, but that sentiment ended when taking a shower. The curtain did not entirely enclose the tub; there is not place to put soap or shampoo bottles. Bathroom lighting is too dim for my wife to do her makeup. The main room was not much better. The TV had lots of channels, but there was no guide to quickly see what's playing. And parking was a block and a half away.
I believe the building that's going up next door is an expansion, and promises to be modern. I'd hold off staying here until the expansion is done and you're guaranteed a room in that building.
The staff, though, was extremely helpful, pleasant, courteous, and professional. The bartender makes an awesome Manhattan.
The charm is nice, but the room didn't meet my minimum expectations. I'll pass on this hotel going forward.
