Super helpful staff

Pros: A pretty and characterful building.
Cons: The room servicing could have been better; one day our bed wasn't made. The carpet wasn't vacuumed, even when requested & toiletries weren't restocked
Location: Located close enough to the main sites and only 200 yards to the nearest bus stop. As fares were only 50p we went everywhere by bus to save our feet
We wanted a hotel with staff who spoke English and were helpful..and this is exactly what we got. Alexander, on reception, made phone calls for us to check ticket availability and whether hydrofoil services were running. He checked bus routes and showed us on Google earth what we should look for to find our way. He had an excellent sense of humour too. The other reception staff didn't make quite the same effort; telling us that concert listings were incorrect and that concerts weren't happening, when further research on our part proved that they did. Our courtyard room was pleasant and not noisy, even though we slept with the window open. The breakfasts had an excellent variety and you could order hot dishes other than those on the buffet table.

Affordable luxury!

Posted Sep 9, 2013
Pros: room, decoration, breakfast, location
Cons: none!
Didn't expect this hotel to turn out to be so nice! I was booking it because I couldn't afford the over-rated ones during the G20 summit. Happy Pushkin was just the Neva River, and about 20 min walk from the Hermitage Museum, which made the location ideal. When I arrived at the hotel, I was astonished by how 'posh' it was--didn't expect that at all given what I paid. There was even a porter--which I was never the case in all the 3-star hotel I've stayed in. The corridors were decorated with beautiful and interesting paintings--reminiscent of the heyday of St Petersburg I guess. The room was very well furnished--with antique-feel furniture and curtains. The bathroom was spacious, clean, and apparently newly refurbished. With the bathropes and slippers provided, you feel much more at home--again, never the experience in other 3-star hotels I stayed before. Finally, the breakfast was excellent--well prepared and served, unlike in other 3-star hotels where the breakfast ruins your appetite.

Nice hotel in a great location. There was a problem with the air conditioning in my room, I got moved straight away without any hassle. Breakfast ok. Priced reasonably for its location.

Very good service by keen young staff

Posted Jun 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
It's a fun place to stay but it is out of the way for the main central attractions. This does however mean it's relatively cheap for the standard of service. The decor is completely over the top, plush wallpaper and red velvet seat covers in the dining room, but it shows they are trying hard. Rooms don't have aircon (well ours didn't, perhaps pricier ones do) so can be stifling in summer, but the staff produced a powerful standing fan that was fine. They couldn't be helpful enough, and they mostly speak excellent English.

Good hotel

Nice hotel only a 10-15 minute walk from the Hermitage. Quiet, clean room. Hotel only a block from the Neva at the Lt. Schmidt bridge. Breakfast was sufficient. Very good staff. They got me a ticket to an opera at the Mariinsky with Gergiev conducting the orchestra.

Charming hotel with friendly staff

Posted Jun 18, 2013
Pros: The staff were brilliant - friendly and attentive. Room was large with interesting decor - think Mills & Boon. Fresh cherries for breakfast.
Location: Easy to find independently.
Conveniently placed hotel near to the river and close to the Bronze Horseman and the Admiralty. I broke my leg skiing 3 months ago so was temporarily on crutches which gave me an insight into travel obstacles. To arrive at hotel by public transport take the metro (subway) to the recently opened Admiralteskaya station. When you come out of the station bear to the left and you will see overhead trolleybus lines along this street in both directions. Cross this street outside the station and walk about 20 metres up the right hand side of this road to the trolleybus stop. Jump on #5 or #22 trolleybus to the end of the line at Trudka Ploshchad (Square). Hand over fare of 25 roubles to conductor. The ride is only about a mile - the bus passes St Isaacs Church and then heads up a tree lined street before pulling off left to the terminus. As you get off the bus take the underground walkway down and go diagonally across the cross roads and come up by a Chinese restaurant (overpriced). Walk pass a small supermarket (Gastronom) and after 20 metres take the first left. Hotel is a hundred metres up this road on the right.

Vacuuming at 23.00

Posted Jun 18, 2013 on Hotels.com
Positives; Staff were friendly and good english, good bathroom. Negatives; Walls Paperthin, Cleaners Vacuuming at 11pm, exterior not as shown in pictures, exterior building run down, didn't feel safe, no sound proofing on windows. Wouldn't stay again.
