Good location, bad standardPosted Jul 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
The only advantage of the hotel is location, which is close to the Winter Palace. Still you have to walk for 10 min to the nearest underground station. The room was ok, but the door was not tight. We could see light from the hall streaming in through the gaps. We could also here phone calls and conversations from the reception which was right around the corner and the doorbell was constantly ringing in the hall. We stayed there for 3 days. On the second day in the morning there was no more drinking water in the kitchen. The hotel didn't manage to get another plastic barrel with drinking water for the rest of our stay. We had to buy our own water to make tea and coffee. Breakfast was from 7 am to 11 am. Very simple breakfast was served (boiled eggs, bread, one kind of cheese, one kind of sausage, some juices, sometimes yoghurt, instant coffee, tea bags, jam, butter). There were no more eggs after 10 am, no yoghurt either. They don’t replenish food variety during the breakfast hours. So your choice is either to take what’s left or go somewhere else to have breakfast. On the check-out day we left our bags at the hotel for a couple of hours to take a walk in the city center. When we came back to pick up the bags, I couldn’t use a bathroom at the hotel and they didn’t have a guest bathroom available. I had to run down to a café downstairs. I think I’ll choose a different hotel next time. I think the hotel is overpriced taking into account the standard and lever of service.
