Super crowded Holiday week. Crowded but pleasant.

Put in room with bad view probably because there for one night only. Ask for building 3 or 4 and an upper floor.

Best Western Emerald Bay

Great beach and all rooms face the beach. Fun beach bar. Restaurant waiting staff needs improvement. Room clean and comfortable. Wasn't bothered by the plane noise being near the airport. Overall, fun stay!

Beachfront hotel with intimate atmosphere

Posted Jan 3, 2015
Pros: Beach, ambiance, intimate size, clean rooms, safe environment, friendly staff, open air restaurant.
Cons: Ask the rooster to crow later than 4 am! :-)
Location: Located across the street from the airport's runway. Walk to airport, walk to bus stop for local Dollar Bus, or grab a taxi at front door & go!
Stayed at Emerald Beach Hotel for five days and LOVED IT. Walked there from the airport, it was that close. Yes, you can see & hear airplanes take off, but no traffic at night to keep you tossing & turning. You can see big cruise ships go by as well, at night that's quite a light show. Lovely sunsets right from the beach/hotel patio. Felt safe & secure, in-room safe for small valuables, locks on patio doors. Beach was lovely to start and end the day at, and the restaurant on premises served tasty food, although pricey and at island speed. Rooms had all the essentials, everything in working order, and immaculate. Staff is very friendly and personable, beach towels at front desk to sign out at no charge. Plenty of taxis to take you anywhere on the island, or walk up the street to catch the Dollar Bus. (It's actually $2 if you go all the way to Red Hook - we learned!)

Nice hotel for a quick business trip.

I travel to St Thomas a couple times a year for a quick business trip. Walking distance from the airport and minutes from town. Great beach for an afternoon swim and sun. The beach bar is fantastic for socializing with tourists and locals.

The staff was great...

Posted Dec 19, 2014
Pros: The staffs attitude to location on the beach
Cons: More local items on the food menu, fresh fish....
Location: Close walk to main down town and local shopping. A little noisy when planes take off
The staff from front desk, restaurant, beach bar, to cleaning staff all were welcoming and very helpful. I look forward to going back.

Terrific property to stay at and a fair price

Posted Dec 10, 2014
Pros: price and location
Cons: airplane shuttle would be greatly appreciated
Location: good swim beach, food and cocktails
We booked last minute on Expedia, and the property worked out perfect for our needs. There are airplanes every so often, but that is the case in many places. Great bar and restaurant next door, and the food at the hotel is equally good. We would stay here again, nice touch of flat screen TV's, coffee maker and refrigerator. And very comfortable beds.

Things that don't work

Posted Dec 9, 2014
Got in first night and the TV remote control would turn the volume up and down but the channel up and down buttons would not work. Asked the lady at the front desk and she told me that was the way it was for all rooms..... Really? Really? I guess the front desk staff think their customers are stupid.

Perfect 4 night stay

Posted Dec 6, 2014
Pros: LOCATION. On the beach, close to the airport. Close to other university and the town (shops, vendors, etc.) Staff were friendly, room was nice.
Cons: Small cosmetic things could be improved (almost anywhere, that is the case). WD-40 the squeaky door, fix air conditioner, fresh paint here & there.
Location: I loved the beaches. There are pretty drives to take, shops and vendors in the city. Drive to other resorts & see their views. Nothing is too far.
If you are a person who can always find something to complain about, stay somewhere else. Don't try to compare this place to One of the Marriott resorts. When booking, I looked for a nice place, in our budget, that was on the beach. Other things I thought were great - it is close to the airport (we got in late, and walked to the airport the following morning to pick up our rental car), and it is close to the University of Virgin Islands. We were visiting to watch the Paradise Jam tournament so this worked out well. Out room was very nice. Cleaned and stocked well. The door squeaked and the air conditioner dripped (turned it off and back on and it stopped). Neither of those things had any impact on our stay. The views from our balcony on the third floor were spectacular. Sunsets were amazing. The on-beach bar was perfect all day. The restaurant had a wonderful seafood buffet one evening. The pool was beautiful, although we only dropped by once (why use a pool when the ocean was steps away?) Staff were pleasant and accommodating, always greeting us and asking about our stay. We ate at a few different places in Charlotte Amalie. Had a delicious Greek salad with blackened mahi at the Green House. Daughter had some chicken strips at the same place which were also good, and my husband had bang bang shrimp and fish tacos that were tasty. Getting used to driving on the left was a little tricky, and bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are thick at night. Wonderful trip!

Great Stay near airport.

Posted Nov 16, 2014
Pros: see above
Location: only stayed one night and took a short cab ride to the Oceana Resturant for dinner. Excellent place to dine!!
Our visit was to St John and had to stay 1 night in St Thomas to catch our afternoon Flt. to Phila. We wanted to be close to the airport to allow another day on the beach. B.W. Emerald was perfect for this. Their beach was terrific, rm was islandy, beautiful view and very clean with comfy bed! It is not a 5 star but we knew that and the price I believe said that. For location & price, we got better than expected. People were very nice, helpful and the beach perfect. In fact we stayed at the Marriott and we think the beach is better here, not the room, but B W Emerald is 1/3 the price too. So priority is your call, B W Emerald gave us more beach time with clean comfort. We also, did the 8 min. walk to the airport. Highly recommend B.W. Emerald.
