DisappointingPosted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: The view from the ocean view room.
Location: St Thomas is a rather small island. All activities are not far. Coral World is just across the bay.
This hotel is very overpriced for what it offers. It starts with the checkin experience which is very inefficient. You can't get a room key before 3pm and even if you provide passport and other required information to the front desk before 3pm you still have to wait in the general line after 3om for the key. They don't explain well what is and what isn't included in the booked package. what they do explain is that if you lose your pool towel card you will be charged $15. On several occasions pool towels were not available. Staff generally seem unhappy with their jobs and are not very friendly. Room cleaning is not thorough and our bath tub wasn't cleaned once in a week. The location of the hotel is somewhat isolated. That would be ok if it had lots of services and activities. Unfortunately the private beach is only about 20 m long. Animators struggle to offer interesting activities to get people in a happy mood. The music at the pool lacks Caribbean feel. One example to illustrate maintenance and staff attitude: Our building had a soda machine at $1 per pop. One day it was out of stock. I found out that soda machines at other building were not working or missing. When I told a staff member that the machine was out of stock his answer was I could buy at the hotel store (where it costs $2). A la carte meals are very overpriced. Buffet is $40. Overall the hotel seems focused on extracting most money rather than customer satisfaction.

Pros: The pool, beach and views.
Cons: Air conditioning throughout resort. The choice of foods & drink locations. Employees attitudes. Need more activities & them put out in advance.
Location: Nothing near by, must take taxi everywhere off location. Resort could be great once remodeled, if more food, drink, and activities are added.
Been to many all-inclusive resorts and this was not one of the top ones. There is a lot of walking, steps and waiting to get anywhere. Very limited activities that are late to start if they do them at all and last only a few minutes. Air conditioning in room did not work before or after they came to fix it. Air conditioning did not work in most other places around resort. Half the time you could not find the people who were suppose to be running the beach rentals or at the snorkel / scuba shop. Miniature golf course in bad shape. The views were great. Most employees were really nice, but some were just as unfriendly. A number of the eating places did not exist and it was a pain to figure out where to go at what time to get a drink of any type. Beware of the 99 steps to most eating places and from the hotel to the pool, beach, etc.

Motel QualityPosted Aug 23, 2014
Sugar Bay made a decent "home base" during my trip, but completely lacked any sort of luxurious feel. The food is the all-inclusive package was edible at best and breakfast is ALWAYS a buffet, as are some other meals. Few healthy options. Next time I will look for a reasonably priced, better quality hotel and just find meals elsewhere. The hotel is outdated and dingy, and the room was poorly cleaned every day. On the upside, staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and seemed eager to assist despite gratuity being included in the all-inclusive package. I would only recommend this resort to someone who could get a great deal on the price, is just looking for a place to crash at night, and isn't a picky eater.

Nice hotelPosted Aug 20, 2014
The hotel was nice but, could be better. The beach was kind of rocky but you could still find some spots that had no rocks. The food was great could use some more variety though. Great bank for the money.

Waist of money!Posted Aug 17, 2014
Cons: It was just bought by new management, everything needs improving
Location: Too far away from everything, taxi cost you a small fortune when you stay here.
Whatever you do don't do the all inclusive. There is the same buffet every morning for breakfast, lunch is two places and slim choices. Buffet is all you have at night other than pizza which isn't good either. The night buffet is very average at best and no room service at all. Staff is 50/50, some are nice others don't want you to bother them. Beach is tiny, you will leave and go to public beach if you like the water. Drinks are most watered down drinks I've ever had anywhere. No stocked refrigerator, if you want drinks in your room you have to buy them at the most expensive gift shop I've ever seen. This was hands down worst hotel we've ever stayed in especially on an island. Pictures and website are very deceiving.

Not very inclusive at allPosted Aug 17, 2014
Our "all inclusive" package ended up not including much..there was a restaurant in the resort that was not even taking reservations even though they were empty..the staff had no idea if they would even be open after that evening because of "problems" that were not explained. Even when we arrived, our room wasn't ready until after 4pm. When we finally arrived to the room well after 4pm, the staff was still in the room supposedly cleaning. When we walked in, the cleaning woman was sitting on the chair on her phone watching tv saying she was waiting for someone to come and plug in the refrigerator. My fiancé went in and plugged it in himself in 5 seconds. One day there was no water to the entire resort for no explainable reason. When we inquired about room service since the good was not very good in the buffet, we were told they no longer offered room service, even for a price. We actually had to order pizza from a local pizzeria for dinner, which was less expensive than having to take a $10 taxi each way 5 minutes into Red Hook to find a restaurant. Our phone also didn't work the entire 5 days we were there. We asked for it to be fixed on the 2nd day, to which we were told it would be but it never was. Everyone is very nice there, but the only thing we heard from them was "sorry, we don't have/can't do that". It's a beautiful island, but everything is a little too lax for the amount of money you're paying.

Nicer in the online pictures for surePosted Aug 10, 2014
Some of the hotel staff were very nice and accommodating while others made you feel like an imposition. The beach is very tiny and the drinks are extremely watered down. I would not return nor would I recommend it to others

Pros: The pool was nice.
Cons: Have staff show hospitality to there guests.
Location: Everything is far away from this hotel need to take a taxi everywhere which adds up. Enjoyed Megan's Bay.
Was very disappointed in this trip. Stayed with my family of 5 had two room. When we got there at 2:00pm checked in and was told both rooms will be ready at 3:00 go down to pool area and get lunch. We all went to get lunch and was told they out of hamburgers and fries. Rest of menu wasn't that great for the rest of our trip. When we went to get our room at 3:30 was told not ready. 1st room was finally ready at 4 and 2nd room at 4:45. Everyday we had to ask for towels and receive 1 wash cloth for the rest of our stay. Spoke with other guest who experienced the same thing. Heard they were in the process of new management. To me all the workers just did not care. For new management give your employees incentives to work harder and teach them how to treat guests.
