The hotel was great for our weekend stay; the rooms quite comfortable and the staff were helpful. We used the pool, had it to ourselves which was nice as it is fairly small so not many people would be able to use it; and we enjoyed the sauna and steam room. Our only real negative was that the hotel was so very hot; the room did not seem to have any thermostat so we had the window open as it was far too warm; also you need asbestos hands to pick up the breakfast plates for the buffet breakfast; aside from that the breakfast was very tasty. We would stay again.

“Mercure Stafford South Hatherton House Hotel”

Booked the hotel for a 1 night stay after a day out at Alton Towers. The hotel is fairly easy to find, tucked away down a quiet road. It was very busy, but the staff were polite and helpful. We didn't have an evening meal in the resturant, we chose to eat out but we did have breakfast included in our stay. The breakfast was ok, service a little slow and the choice wasn't as advertised, but it filled a hole and was of a decent quality. I wouldn't have been so happy with it if I had paid the £13.95 they wanted for it. In all, if you're looking for a middle of the road hotel for 1 or 2 nights, this fits the bill.

“Outdated”

One imagines 15 years ago this was the bees knees. Sadly it is now dated, the food didn't quite cut it, the rooms were cold, and the decor tired. The staff on the other hand were superb, especially the dining room staff, very helpful and co-operative.

“Not what we expected”

From the name of the hotel and the photos on the internet we expected a bit more for our money. The staff ignored us most of the time and we were initially only given one towel between two of us. After requesting another towel and putting two out for replacement in the morning we still returned to find only one towel again in the evening. This happened again on the third evening! Definitely not good customer service.

“Worth a stay”

We have stayed at the hotel before,surprised this time as the room we were allocated was really nice.we used the hotel as a base to sleep and eat as we were out most of the time we were in Penkridge at a local show. Staff ok helpful to a degree but I would mark them down as they advertise 24 hr reception and room service,at about 0500hrs in the morning of Sat 15/10/11 I woke up `wanting a drink(due to excessive heating of room) so I rang room service nothing no reply to call just kept on ringing out.Same on reception I then get dressed go to reception find place abandoned all open no one to be found. I then spend next twenty mins walking round the hotel( could have taken anything) Only then did I find a young chap in the function suite tidying away chairs from a do they had had the night before.He infact was the only member of staff in the hotel.When I told him I was after a drink and the fact they advertise 24 hrs room service he told me that doesnt happen and theres no one on reception. Breakfast can be a bit ropey as its self service sometimes food ok other times cold or been left too long Bar prices too dear Would suggest hotel employs older generation workforce/staff as I feel they would want to look after their guests
