“Hotel is under major reovations. A lot of construction debris.”

This hotel has a lot of possibilites once the construction is done. At this moment it is a mess.

“Hotel undergoing renovation”

“Convenient for NY City”

A 45-minute train ride from the heart of NYC, this hotel was exactly what we were looking for in that respect and it suited us overall. Downsides for us were noisy a/c in other rooms and noisy neighbours. Dinner (we only ate in on one evening) was good but the menu was somewhat limited. Parking in the hotel carpark was easy but a $10-a-night charge seemed over the top, especially as the barriers were up on two of the three mornings we drove out of the place. Overall, though, pretty good value and it was ideal for visiting NYC and neighbouring towns in CT.

“Dirty, Dusty, and Disappointing”

I understand that a hotel under renovation is going to have some issues with construction noise and dust, but my room was really dusty -- and it was allegedly one of the renovated rooms! Fortunately, housekeeping dusted it after I left a note on my pillow. There were terrible stains on the carpet, stains on the duvet, no dish for the soap, towels that were frayed around the edges -- this was probably the worst condition of a hotel that I have been in in a very long time. Their "business center" was nothing more than four computer monitors that were set up for "gaming." I tried three times to get to the page that would allow me to access the fee per minute internet service with no luck. I was so frustrated with it that I didn't even bother to print my boarding pass there. The so-called shuttle was really disappointing the first day. The front desk staff promised it would be there in 10 minutes, but 40 minutes later I was still waiting and the front desk staff was not very helpful in suggesting an alternative. For some reason, the lights were off in the cavernous lobby -- even during the evening hours and I could hardly see my menu to order dinner in the Gazebo lounge. Worse yet, there were bugs flying around my food and one landed in my wine. At least the food was decent. I would definitely not stay there again.

Area recommendations

Downtown Stamford had great restaurants. I had a great dinner at Sienna, an italian restaurant that is a little pricey, but well worth the money. Cost me $85 for dinner and I am not a big eater.

“Terrible Room”

Probably the worst hotel room I have stayed in in quite some time. Stains mark the carpet, walls, bedspread. The furniture is falling apart. The room and halls have a foul odor.

“Horrible!!!”

I'm a supervisor in a Retail Chain and I know how important customer service is and this hotel lacked this factor. I would never stay there again. The room was not cleaned for 2 of the 6 days of my stay. There was a do not disturb sign put on the door mysteriously so it was not cleaned. There were loud banging noises from the room above. The TV did not work properly. The bathroom was dirty as was the carpet in the hallways. The staff in their restaurant were very unfriendly. On the first morning we went down for breakfast she closed 15 minutes before time without an apology and we tried it again on the day we checked out and she informed us of the price if we were checking out, and never smiled or said good morning, so we took our business elsewhere. I usually stay in Stamford at least 4 times a year and I would not ever stay here again. It was a totally unpleasant experience. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Area recommendations

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Select also in Stamford and I would recommend it highly to anyone.

“A fine choice”

This was our third stay at this hotel. The hotel is undergoing renovations and will become a Crowne Plaza hotel in the future. The hotel needs updating but the service is very good and the rooms are clean. We will stay there again and hope that it doesn't change in character when the hotel is updated.
