“Lovely hotel.”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Atherton Hotel. The room was bigger than the average hotel room, and the beds were comfortable, although queen beds (instead of double) would have been better. The lobby was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We would definitely stay here again!
“am very satisfied with the hotel”
Good location, classy decoration, comfortable and clean room, kind front desk service, nice classical music played in the lobby and the restaurant area all the time. I like the hotel. Additionally it is reasonably priced.
“Not pleased”
Second time I've left something behind at this hotel and no one from housekeeping would call me back when I left message inquiring. Not surprising. We found an OLD pair of ladies undergarments under the bed. If they can't clean they sure as heck can't return phone calls.
“atherton hotel”
location was great, but it is not even that it seems old, but could really use a really good cleaning.
“Nice stay!!”
Nice stay on a short trip to State College. Good location and quality breakfast.
“In a word, disappointing”
Considering that it's one of the higher priced hotels in State College, my experience was less than expected. The heating units are old and make a sound that goes far beyond white noise when you're trying to sleep (they changed our room, but the same noise came from that heater). The room was apparently above the bar area, because late at night we awoke to the outrangeously loud sound of empty bottles being thrown into some kind of container. Then, very early (before daylight) we awoke to the sound of garbage trucks emptying the dumpsters, which were apparently located right below our window. We were on third floor, so I can only imagine how loud it must have been for the folks on the 2nd floor. The staff at the registration desk were less than attentive. We had to stand and wait from someone to show up on both check-in and check-out. The wait was so long at check-out, that we could only assume she had been out taking a smoke break. Lastly, they charge a fee for the parking garage that was not indicated on the site when I made my registration. There was also no sign in the parking garage. Had I known about the charge, we would have parked elsewhere. Overall, not impressive. I won't be back.
“Great hotel within walking distance to State College's bars/restaurants.”
Great hotel on the edge of downtown State College with great service. Location is good, just a few minutes walk to the downtown bars/restaurants. The hotel is in great condition: clean and well maintained, but it's starting to show its age in some areas. The mattresses could use replacement and the TVs are very outdated, at least compared to those at the major chains. Still, given the small amount of competition in downtown State College, the Atherton is a winner. Watch out for the main bartender, who has been around for years, she can have a bit of a rough edge (putting it nicely) and I often wonder how she keeps her job. Oh, and thumbs up for vending machines...not only are they inexpensive, but the prices beat most convenience stores!
