Beautiful restored hotel

Posted Sep 25, 2014
Pros: It is located close to the highway. It is beautifully restored.
Location: Located in downtown. We only stayed one night and did not go exploring.
We only stayed one night at this hotel. The hotel is beautiful. Check-in was a breeze. The room was comfortable but we were put in a room with a view of a brick wall. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay there again but next visit will for sure have a better view! Paid parking was conveniently next door with an elevator to take you to the lobby. The hotel is also located downtown surrounded by historic homes.

This is a gem … great value in a great location!

Pros: Clean, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet. Excellent value.
Location: Had a nice prime rib at the Mill Street Grill, a block away
Booked this last minute for a Sunday night. Staunton closes early on Sundays but we still had a fine meal nearby (recommended by the staff). Free parking in the attached garage.

A room near old town Staunton

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: We liked the historic presence of the hotel, the location and the convenience of parking.
Cons: I know very little about the hotel business but perhaps the following remark might prove useful. The breakfast dining room had a strong cooking odor.
Location: The theater, of course, Mary Baldwin College, Wilson home, a used book store and several curious shops, plus several restaurants and coffee houses.
Our experience with Stonewall Jackson Hotel was one of cleanliness, quiet and convenience. We appreciated the staff answering our questions without our having to go into long explanations or being made to feel ourselves as inconvenient by asking. As for the breakfast dining, we went out because we wanted to see the neighborhood.

Road trip with kids

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Location of hotel lobby could be more clear. We drove around the hotel twice before we figured it out.
Location: The town is very quaint. Theater next door. We didn't get the opportunity to explore the town, but looked like there would be lots to do; shops, cafes
We stayed here as a stop on our way to Gatlinburg and it was LOVELY! I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very nice; pool was great - we were the only ones in it, which made it that much nicer. Wish we could have spent more time there, but will definitely be back.

Small rooms, nicely done.

Location: Can only write 1 sentence here, so how supposed to mention things???
Didn't try the restaurant or bar. Pool and gym were well appointed. Room small but clean and comfortable. Housekeeping staff warm and friendly. Hotel is only 4 stories...wish there were stairs that went to all floors (not the far-end fire stairs). Irksome relying on elevators to reach lobby. Most of hotel staff is a bit older and their professionalism shows through. The younger (mid-20s?) female staff were brusque and a bit arrogant, with that insincere feminine voice thing. The younger male staff didn't seem to have the same chip on their shoulders, thankfully. All in all, a good stay!

Pros: Location next to Shakespeare Theater and good restaurants
Cons: Was only there for one night, but if there longer would definitely have needed more hangers. Bathroom amenities were rather skimpy.
Room was ready when I arrived at 1 p.m. Front desk staff very helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good.

Everything a Local Hotel Should Be

Posted Jun 26, 2014 on Hotels.com
This is my second time in the past 6-9 months staying at the Stonewall. It is a surprise gem in the cute and historic town of Staunton. We stumbled upon it accidentally last year when we were looking for a hotel near the Shenandoah vineyards. It is a beautifully renovated hotel with southern charm. It is clean, quiet, and conveniently located right among some great local restaurants. This is a great distance from wineries, Shenandoah National Park, University of Virginia, Monticello, and Montpelier. Can't think of anything negative to say!
