“Needs some improvement”

Legacy Vacation Club - Steamboat Hilltop is under renovation and needs it! Their entrance road is in poor condition and is hard to travel up when it is snowy or icy. With low number of guests, they forgot to come service our room - make the beds, bring more towels or bring more coffee for the coffee maker. It looks like it might be good in the long run, but it is still in need of work now. For the low rate we got and the little amount of time we spent there, it was adequate for our needs, but don't expect a lot.

“Wait til the renovations are done”

The parts of the renovation that were done were very nice, but there is a lot of updating that needs to be finished-namely new A/C in the rooms. Ours was broken and we COOKED that night.

“Not impressed”

We stayed here because of the close proximity of the baseball fields. The hotel was in disrepair (they said it was being remodeled but I think it was a cover for the poor condition) We were led to believe it would have 2 king size beds on a floor level. It ended up being a loft with 2 bedrooms with tight space and no king.

“needs lots of TLC”

The outside of the hotel is very rundown. Paint is peeling off the building everywhere. Many years since painted. Inside very dated and needs new sofa beds as mattress was horrible. Inside was clean. We asked to check out one hour late and the manager acted as if we were making the most outlandish request. He said we would have to wait until the next morning to find out, well that didn't work for us as we needed to know the night before. The price was right------ I suppose due to the condition of the facility.

“excellent hotel”

this is a great hotel for the price. me, my wife and our 4-month-old son stayed there for 3 nights and were very satisfied. the hotel was super clean and everybody was nice and helpful. we stayed in 1 bedroom 2 bath suite and everything was clean and stocked - both bathrooms fully stocked, fully equipped kitchen - sponges, all kinds of utensils and silverware, toaster, blender and everything you could possibly think of although we didn't actually use it. the indoor pool with 2 hot tubs were also perfectly clean and open till 10:30pm we even had our son swim in the pool for the first time in his 4-month life. I read all the reviews before I went there and was concerned but it is a nice clean and well maintained place and well worth the money. And if you read about the noise from the train - this is nonsense - our room was facing the train but it comes so rarely and is about a quarter mile down the hill - IT DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH YOU IN ANY WAY. Once again - this is a good place - it is old but they are renovating and maintaining it very well!!!

Area recommendations
Have lunch on Rio Grande's Roof Patio on a sunny day. It is a Mexican Restaurant in Downtown and the view to the slopes is unforgettable.

“"Cool Place, Nice Bedroom"”

It has a hot tub, a swimming pool, it also has an arcade room. It has a miniature golf course, a tennis court, a barbecue, and it also has a exercise room. It is so far my favorite hotel I've ever stayed in. Plenty of room for a family. Kids stayed in one room, adults in another (plus the kitchen)

When to go
We went at the end of ski season which was great because we got such a low price on the room - however, it was also a bad time to go because in Steamboat it's still snowy in April, so there wasn't as much to do in the bad weather. They have plenty of winter things to do - we just hadn't planned on winter things in April.

“Decent place, helpful staff, property needs more updating”

Our room appeared to be REALLY clean. Some updating has been done but more work needs to be done - I noticed some cracks in a wall, and the border paper has got to go! Beds were pretty comfortable. There were a few strange smells in the hallways and our room - cleaning fluids & unidentified cooking smells coming through the vents. Kitchen fairly useable, but small & lacked counter space even for basic lunch prep for 3 people. During ski season, the entire living area fills up quickly with with just a few people and their winter/ski clothing & gear. Thankfully, it IS larger than a basic hotel room and a pretty good value. The property is NOT on the SST (Steamboat Springs Transit) free shuttle. The property does have two shuttle vans, but wait times are a little longer and there's no set schedule. As an alternative, If you have a vehicle but don't want to drive it & park in the crowded gondola base area, you can drive your vehicle to one of the SST bus stops (Safeway or Pine Grove Center), and get on the SST shuttle there. The SST buses run every ten minutes from 6 am to about 8 pm during ski season. If you're looking for a hotel within walking distance to restaurants & bars, this is NOT the place for you. If you're looking for a decent place to stay without paying an arm and a leg, I'd recommend this property. It's not fancy, there's no daily housekeeping or breakfast service, but it worked out fine for us.

Dining
Mambo Italiano on Lincoln Ave. downtown is hip/cool. Great deal: half price pizzas 4:30 to 5:30 PM only, dine in or carry out. Panda (??) Chinese Restaurant near City Market grocery store is good. None of the big slopeside or downtown crowds, either. Give it a try.
Family-friendly activities
The Hot Springs pool downtown across from the Rabbit Ears Motel is AWESOME! Open year round, good for families, couples, singles, anybody. Several pools of varying temperatures, two waterslides and a climbing wall. We've been to many hot springs in Colorado, this is one of the best. Try the Heart Spring....ahhh. And - save $2 on adult admission with a Connect Steamboat coupon available around town.
Other
Steamboat (the ski area) is a fantastic place to ski, but it's not exactly easy on the budget. For a place that bills itself as a family area/resort, lift ticket prices are pretty steep and as of March 2011, there are NO discount tickets/advance purchase discounts/coupon savings, etc. You get a slight break if you buy a three day pass, and there are a few other ways to save a llittle money. I learned that Steamboat & Vail are the only two ski areas in Colorado that do NOT have discount passes. Be prepared to fork over the big bucks to ski at Steamboat.

“Steamboat location”

We arrived to find that the sister location had availability, which worked better for us. It was closer to the bus line and a shopping center. The only drawback was no indoor swimming pool, however, the indoor spa was fine. Also, they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom at no cost. Great place for families or individuals - 100 yds from the bus route to the mountain or town. Super!
