Stay on 16 Aug 14

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: close to shops
Cons: furniture, better TV. Coffee pot was in the room but packs of instant coffee only.
Location: Shops and restaurants were within walking distance.
Hotel address is not as xpedia.com states. We had to call the hotel directly for the correct address. The manager is friendly. Room was adequate but definitely would pay a little extra for a better hotel.

Good enough for a short stay in Steamboat

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: Price, location.
Cons: Could be updated, but for the price it was perfect.
Location: Short walk to downtown and short drive to the mountain, or take the free bus route.
For a short stay in Steamboat, this place is a GREAT value. A short walk to downtown and very convenient to the mountain, this was good enough for me, my wife and daughter to stay for one night. And the owner was a real character! I would stay here again.

Not bad for an inexpensive motel

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Ok for a short stay. Staff/owners are pleasant. Right at the edge of all the downtown shops and restaurants and just across the street from a nice park and the river trail

An older place which is O.K. but very dirty.

Posted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Clean it.
My wife and I needed a cheap place to stay in Steamboat Springs and we decided to stay at the Western Lodge. It is an older place so we went into with the attitude that it would be alright for one night. We arrived late at night, around 10:00, and needed a place to sleep, get up early the next morning, take a shower, and then leave. When we arrived and opened the door to the room we were greeted with a very nasty smell. We were tired and figured that we would get used to it and would fall asleep shortly. We decide to investigate the bathroom and discovered that the shower was beyond dirty as well as having hair though out the shower. Neither my wife or myself would take a shower there and I hate not starting the day without a shower. There was also a loud ticking sound from the wall that I could hear even with ear plugs in my ears. It is one thing for a hotel to be old but there is no excuse for it to be dirty.

Budget hotel in Steamboat Springs

Posted Mar 16, 2014
Very friendly owner/manager who greeted me with fascinating stories. Conveniently located in downtown Steamboat Springs. The hotel room was older, though clean, no smoke smell at all. There were a couple of very fixable problems. The heat had been turned to sauna like conditions. The other problem was no soap in the dispensers.

Short one night stay

Posted Mar 15, 2014
Pros: The rate was the best. I was only in Steamboat for a short time so didn't need many amenities.
Location: Lots to do in Steamboat. They had travel magazines which made looking around Steamboat much easier.
Very basic, has coffee maker (only instant coffee), refrigerator and microwave. Nice TV, room size was just right.

Outdated '70's hotel

Posted Mar 11, 2014
Pros: That is was available and fairly clean.
Cons: The ceilings above the showers have a lot of hard water stains and it is a very dated hotel.
Location: It is in the middle of town and close to a lot of things.
It was a good place to lay our heads since all the other hotels were booked but it would be my last choice. It was clean and roomy but it is for sale and it feels like the owners have already checked out.

Congenial owner

Posted Mar 4, 2014
Pros: Accordian being played in the office, live music while checking in!
Cons: Comfort of beds. Could use a thick pillow topper as mattress pad and comfort would improve significantly
Location: Great "old town Steamboat" location. Walk to dinning and shopping. Can see the ski jump hill. 8 blocks to hockey rink
Beds were uncomfortable. I do better with soft and comfy beds.

Pros: Friendly and funny owners, family oriented business, a very clean and warm room.
For a small city that is considered one of the skiing locations in Colorado, the price of everything is very high. In particular, the average price for a room per night is fairly more expensive than other places in Colorado. However, among all the available lodging options in Steamboat Springs, Western Lodge offers a reasonable price for a room. Of course, for this price, you will not get a shiny fancy room. But the room that you get provides you with all the important elements that you need for a night to rest. The most important aspects of the room: the room looks old but very clean, warm and comfortable. If you ask me whether I would repeat my experience with this place, I would say yes.

Cheap Hotel... Smells

Posted Dec 30, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: Clean the walls and repair all the stains. Fix the smell!
The hotel is in a good location but cheap. You get what you paid for. It smelled in our room and it was old and dated with stains on the walls and roof. The smell was the worst of it all.
