“Great escape close to Oxford”

I have had a delightful weekend at the Holt (lovely walks especially by the canal)before but this was a business trip. I arrived late on a very cold night and received a warm welcome which included delaying the bar closing so I could get a much-needed pint! Would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

“Suited us”

Only stayed one night en route to elsewhere. Very nice welcome from the cheerful reception staff. Had cute attic room (albeit a distance thru the corridors from reception, bar etc...) pleasant decor - decent bathroom (great shower pressure and LARGE towels - 2 of my nice to haves in a hotel!) Bar meal was good and reasonably priced. Decent buffet breakfast and again cheerful staff around. Would stay again if we were down this way and needing a room.

“Beautiful countryside hotel”

The hotel was quiet but quiet far from the city center. The room was clean but tight. Spacious parking. The customer service was good. Generous buffet breakfast.

“Convenient stopover”

Only one night spent in this hotel, prior to morning meeting in nearby Steeple Aston. Very nice atmosphere and good cuisine. Suited my purposes; would return if business recalls me tto the area.

“Poor choice of food on the bar menu.”

The hotel was nice but the room we had was an attic room for which you needed a map to find from reception! It was a long walk from reception with a heavy bag. The bar was full of cigarette smoke and the menu for bar meals was limited so we went elsewhere to eat. Very nice breakfast and polite staff.

“run down provincial hostelry”

although the hotel has great facilities and helpful and friendly staff it really is in need of a makeover. the carpet is tired and stained, the floorboards deafeningly squeeky and the bedspreads seriously seventies. we were given a smoking room instead of a non-smoking one which stank like an ashtray. there was an air-freshener which failed to cover up anything. perhaps they could have given the room a regular "febreeze" or "oust" to improve the smell. overall nor much value for money.

“Fairly good but could be a lot better.”

A beautiful old building that is starting look a bit tired. Staff were fairly good. The location is a bit remote which means a 15 minute drive to a restuarant.

“Solid base for Bicester & Oxford trip”

Impressive period building slightly let down by tired looking interior, as stated by many other guests. However, keeping the rates in mind, you should not expect a five star environment. This hotel isn't part of a large chain neither (which may add to the charm). Our "standard" room wasn't big but certainly provided everything we needed. Bathroom was the least impressive bit; a bit seventies with staines everywhere and cracked tiles. But definitely clean throughout! Positive points (and enough to recommend this hotel): lots of free parking space, large welcoming reception area and lobby, nice breakfast, garden to play with kids and convenient location for both Bicester Village and Oxford. No other restaurants or pubs at walking distance though.

“Not quite what we expected”

The members of staff provided excellent service. However compared to beds in USA we found them very small and uncomfortable. One room had only a bath, no shower.Breakfast was good, with lots of choices for a growing family.
