Nice surprise

Posted Dec 18, 2014
Pros: Staff, location. cleanliness, amenities.
I found myself in Sterling for less than 24 hours on a job, and decided to stay at the Sundowner. I was pleasantly surprised by the updated, super clean, convenient, lodging. The staff was really friendly, and I would stay again.

Just an okay experience. Nothing great about this one, breakfast wasn't very good either.

Best hotel in Sterling!

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: I liked the decor and quality of the furnishings. Loved the outdoor pool and the balcony off the room complete with chairs, table and pool view.
Cons: Breakfast room is loud and could use some sound-proofing. Breakfast needs more hot food selections. Not necessarily more choices, just more volume.
Location: The Bistro is a great restaurant downtown. River City Grill is good, too. City pool has big water slides. College sports. Farm league baseball!
Fabulous outdoor pool open until 11pm. There's also an indoor pool and a hot tub outside. Hot tub was empty--it's August, who hot tubs in August? Cookies at 6pm check-in, too! Great hotel--upscale feel to the rooms, though the bathroom is small. Complimentary breakfast leaves a bit to be desired, but most of them do. Request a room with a balcony, facing the pool if you can get it. Also, make sure to get a reservation the 2nd weekend of August as it's fair time and every hotel in town is full!

Expected much better

Posted Jul 30, 2014
Pros: The older gentleman at the front desk, who helped us after the incompitant and confused woman, was very pleasant.
Cons: See above.
Location: A beautiful and terrifying penitentiary is right across the highway. Another fun thing to find out once in Sterling.
As soon as we went to check in, at the check in time, they didn’t know if ANY rooms were clean. We then found out the outdoor pool was closed which we were not aware of when we booked the room which was only 2 days before arriving. When we originally booked the room, we requested a second story room. Once in the room, we realized there was no elevator in the entire hotel so I had to bring all our luggage and baby things up the stairs. No elevator isn’t the biggest deal, but it was an inconvenience. In the actual room, we were unhappy to realize we were in conjoining rooms with a door connecting them. Again, not a huge deal but we could hear EVERY single word the man in the other room was saying. I now know his entire life story because of this. Lastly, the breakfast was subpar. Needless to say, we will not be staying at this hotel again and would not recommend it.

Sundowner

Posted Jan 12, 2014
Pros: Cleanliness of the room. The day staff was friendly.
Cons: Customer service.
I enjoyed the room. The hot tub could be a little bigger. We went to the free breakfast. The food was good but we wanted to eat in our room. When we got back to the room the key would not open the door. I asked for help and a maid came over and her key would not work either. Then the front desk clerk came down the hall toward me. She asked on her way " Did you dead bolt the lock?" I said no I did not. I could not leave the room had I used the deadbolt. The clerk did not respond and made me feel like I was really bothering her. Some people should not be in customer service. Overall the hotel was decent.

Quality hotel

Posted Jun 27, 2013
Pros: clean room, comfortable bed
Location: There's a nice museum across the street, but I didn't have a chance to visit it.
I was just pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was and the overall comfort. I had a one night stay, but it was exactly what I wanted. I have to stay over in Sterling for business every few months or so. Previously I had stayed at the Ramada, but never again. The Best Western Sundowner is much nicer.

Clean and Quiet Hotel

Posted Jun 24, 2013
Pros: Quiet at Night
Cons: Longer breakfast hours
Location: Riverview Golf Course
Great stay, good breakfast, quiet and convenient. Close to Golf course and museum. Downtown just a couple miles away.
