Convenient stop-over

Posted May 13, 2014
Pros: Location Staff
Cons: New Mattresses new light bulbs Improve the lift [if possible]
We booked this as a convenient stop-over when travelling from the far North of Scotland down to the Midlands. The hotel was easy to find and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. There was plenty of car parking. The breakfast was Ok and the evening meal reasonably priced and OK. The Hotel is old and partly r re-fitted. The corridors are creaky and the lift - maybe Edwardian, has a job to take 2 people and a case. Its a lift with two concertina doors and is maybe not suitable for disabled people. The room was small and cramped. The bed had seen better days and I think new mattresses are needed. The bathroom was Ok for size but had only one functioning light bulb and was therefore dark. The shower cubical was very small although the shower worked fine with plenty of hot water. The shower etc. was clean. The best aspects of this hotel are its convenient location, ample parking and the friendliness of the staff. We didn't pay a great deal so I suppose we got what we paid for.

Cons: Review your mattresses, staffing levels, customer service.
I had to call room staff on retiring to bed. There was a metal spike sticking up through the mattress which I sat on. Only two junior members of staff on duty as it was "staff night out". I asked for a complaints form at the desk on checkout but was told there was no such thing. I asked for the Manager - no Manager either. The receptionist said she would contact the owners. I have had no joy but I do have the spike and photographs of it - kept as evidence!! B Smart
