Time to fix the ice machines

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: Rooms clean, nice people.
Cons: Make sure ice is easily available.
Location: Not super close to buses and trains but not really far either. Not a lot of close restaurants. It was not an ideal location for people without a car
All 3 ice machines spread over the 10 floors were out of order the whole time- which meant going to the bar for ice- a little thing but annoying as, obviously, all the ice machines didn't break at once, so this is just not a priority for them. The room seemed a bit stuffy but the staff were all very nice. Restaurant food so so- we ate there twice and weren't impressed for the price.

A good base for seeing the most of Stockholm

Posted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: Location and facilities
Cons: Room cleaning not consistent
Location: A quiet area, but with good transport access to the city centre within 30 minutes.
We chose Courtyard by Marriott Stockholm based on previous favourable experiences with Marriott in other European cities. It is located only ten minutes from the metro station, opposite parkland, with nice restaurants within walking distance. The reception and restaurant staff were not only very professional but friendly too. Only negative comment is that room cleaning could have been improved - the level of daily care during our nine night stay was not consistent. A fresh toilet roll was not provided until staff were prompted; tea, milk and sugar were not consistently re-supplied in the room, and I noticed that over a three day period, the room was not vacuumed to remove some small bits of paper on the carpet. Re-provision of towels was also haphazard over the period. In my experience of other Marriott hotels this lack of attention is untypical for the brand.

Good choice for a three day stay,

Posted Jul 25, 2014
Pros: Three blocks from Metro. Appreciated the available computer since I needed to stay in touch with business at home. The restaurant in the BEST!
Cons: Place wake up call and no call came. Had to ask for towels as we were two and they kept leaving one.
Location: Limited restaurant it is a quite area which we were fine with as the metro was near by.
Overall pleasing and hotel has all needed facilities and services.

Superb comfortable hotel, great value, friendly

Posted Jul 16, 2014
Pros: Great location, exceptionally helpful staff, clean, comfortable, good food.
Cons: The hotel website could give better information on getting from the airport. That Flygbussarna bus which stops a few hundred metres from the hotel!
Location: You can walk to a small beach at Smedsudden, or take a short bus ride and walk right round the nature reserve island of Langholm, also with a beach.
The hotel, with large and very comfortable room, was a great base for exploring Stockholm. It is a short walk from Fridhemsplan T-bahn (metro) station and, though we walked a lot, it was handy to use the T-bahn for covering distance quickly. Note that the cheapest and probably quickest way to get to hotel from Arlanda airport is the Flygbussarna bus which stops at Fridhemsplan (note there are two routes, one of which does not stop at Fridhemsplan - check their website). The bus return from airport is 210 Swedish krone. The breakfast is great, fantastic selection of Swedish breads, really fresh fruit and the usual eggs, bacon and sausages plus some very nice pickled herrings, cheese and meats. Eat well at breakfast for both food and drink in Stockholm are mind-blowingly expensive. In fact, we found that the hotel dinner and their real ale were quite good value - expensive but no more so than most places to eat in the town. A glass of beer in Stockholm costs upwards of £7 - we paid £9 for a decent beer and that is for 0.4 litres, less than a pint! Fortunately, we brought some stuff from the duty free and there is a decent fridge in the room as well as ice machine on 11th floor. Stockholm is fantastic for walking, a number of the islands are partly wooded, including Langholm which is nearby. The concierge gave great advice about how to get places.

Very comfortable Hotel after a day of walk

Posted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: The friendly staffs and the comfy beds
Cons: Maybe providing airport shuttle services at a small fee?
Location: You can swim, run, cycle or do sun bathing at the lake nearby..
This is a very comfortable and conducive hotel to stay in.. however, if you are taking public transport from the airport then you might have a bit of a problem.. the walk to the city is also about 25 mins but its an enjoyable walk because of the nice lake where you see the locals doing their daily activities. Food is good, room is good, hotel staffs are very friendly.. nothing to complain about :)

Stockholm Marriott

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Pros: It was within walking distance of our son and daughter-in-law's home on Lilla Essengin and the subway and bus lines.
Cons: The hotel could have used a pool or hot tub--rather, I could have used one at the end of our busy days.
Location: Hop a bus or subway and visit Skansen, Vasa Museum or Gammla Stan--all within minutes of the hotel.
The Marriott was comfortable and clean but the staff seemed to not quite grasp things like our breakfast being included in our room price (the hostess at the dining room probably submitted the charges in error and the poor hotel desk clerk had to untangle it) and that we would pay for our family. Maybe summer vacations had more senior employees off and newer ones trying to do their best to keep things running. Don't know what was going on but the overall stay was enjoyable and nothing that happened was a show stopper--just minor inconvenience that made checkout a fifteen minute process instead of a minute or two..

Kungsholmen (and the Marriott Courtyard) turns out to be a good location for Stockholm tourist visits. Nearest T-bana station is a 4 minute walk and is 2 stops from Stockholm Centralen yet the area around the hotel is a world away from central Stockholm, located in a modern residential district. Adjacent is a leisure park and the Malarstrand waterfront with a walkway (Malarstrand) that goes into the city centre past the Radhuset great for evening promenades or an early morning run. There are a few restaurants along the Malarstrand (Mälarpaviljongen is incredibly busy on summer evenings). We mostly used restaurants in Gamla Stan for dinner but, while exploring on our last day, concluded that there are small local restaurants throughout Kungsholmen and we should have investigated especially in the NW corner of the island around Hornberg's Strand. Breakfast buffet at the Courtyard was just fine. Room air conditioning was spot on to deal with some unseasonally hot summer weather.

Good Business and Vacation Hotel

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: Good American hotel experience. Excellent breakfasts.
Location: Most tourist attractions are not in walking distance for most people, but they were for us. The subway system is very close by.
We were in Europe for four weeks, mostly staying in apartments and small inns. We stayed five nights here and it was a typical Marriott American experience. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The only downside for us is that it was far from the Gamla Stan and most tourist experiences. But we walked along the lake twice a day on our way to and from which was an added bonus.

Good city hotel

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: Room allocation met requests so good views from spacious room.
Location: Metro or bus to Gamla Stan but town centre is walkable.
Easy to get to by public transport but within walking distance of city centre if feeling energetic. Friendly staff. Hotel provided all you would expect from it.
