A great value--picturesque inn, terrific foodPosted Mar 8, 2014
Stowehof is a hidden gem. The views of the mountains and woods are fantastic. The common areas are wonderfully comfortable and inviting. The rooms are a little dated, but are clean and comfortable. Great for a week-end get-away, at a reasonable price. The included breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious, as was the very reasonably priced dinner at the bar. Highly recommended.

Wasn't expecting too muchPosted Mar 7, 2014
Pros: Close enough to the slopes (Stowe)
Cons: Bedding, cleanliness, price (for what we got...), smell in the room
Location: Skiing, snowshoeing.
From the comments that we have read before we weren't expecting much...and we didn't get much ! The comments on Expedia were true : good breakfast but room was out of age, smelly and we got two twin beds that were put together with a small (very small) matress on top to make a king bed. We could see that it wasn't made for that. So that was disapointing. That and the skittle and pill that we found behind the TV, I guess room cleaning missed it...

Step back in time but time to move forwardPosted Feb 16, 2014
Stayed for two nights for a quick ski trip to Stowe. I am torn about this hotel. It is like stepping back in time and it does have a charm. At the same time, I feel like it could retain the charm but still upgrade. It seems a little worn around the edges, and perhaps trying to hang on to days gone by to a detriment. The room was clean, but it definitely needs an upgrade. The mattress was ashowing its age along with the furnishings and rug. It was clean. We ate at the pub both nights, and the food was quite good. I bet this would be a great place to stay in the summer. I will try a different inn for my next visit. Overall a pleasant experience.

Cozy and close to the hill.Posted Feb 12, 2014
We had a nice stay. The inn is showing its age but that is part of the atmosphere. The breakfast was very good.

Disappointing and old not cozy or quaintPosted Dec 2, 2013
Awful King room was 2 twins pushed together with twin bedding on each. Bathroom door didn't shut - let alone lock. Room was over the kitchen so we heard clanking late and again early. Teeny small TV and bad WiFi reception. Holes in door in bathroom and ceiling was dirty. Weird. This place needs major attention. The breakfast was limited and what was there wasn't very good (and we aren't picky) -- we asked to see another room but that one was worse! It smelled musty and mildewy. We were supposed to stay another night and we checked out early and came home. Front desk staff was disingenuous telling us the place was booked so we couldn't switch to any room but the musty one. However, the manager in the pub/restaurant told us the hotel wasn't particularly busy. We would never go back or recommend it. They are STILL advertising that Alan Alda filmed a movie there 35 years ago. Well, I'm sure it was lovely then but who cares now?

Rooms were unique, beautiful and a great viewPosted Oct 28, 2013
The heat wasnt working in our room, so the owner upgraded our room to the bridal sweet at no extra cost. Beautiful rooms that are all different and the lodge itself was wonderful.

It was an older Hotel so I would not expect it to appear new. The carpets were a bit stained and there was a musty smell to the place. The breakfast was great in a lovely setting, overlooking the sloping lawn leading to the forest. The breakfast was included in the price of the room. It was a nice room and the location of the hotel would be perfect for someone who is planning to golf or ski. There were all kinds of restaurants between Stowe and the hotel.
