Pros: The area, the views
Cons: The hotel could use updating (freshen up)
Location: The location was great. We went for a ride to see the area and the ski area.

VERY Worth The CostPosted Oct 29, 2013
Pros: The tours, programs, grounds. There's not much to not like.
Cons: Update the bathrooms, curtains, rugs. Add a mini fridge & micorwave/coffee maker to every room.
Location: About 5 mins. from Stowe, you can reach the town (shops, restaurants) quickly. Ben & Jerrys, Cold Cider Mill, covered bridges, ski resorts.
The Von Trapp Lodge is an older resort. Although some things are dated (rugs, curtains) they're minor and the rooms are very spacious and exceptionally clean. We didn't have a microwave or mini fridge which would have been nice but it still worked. The grounds are impeccable and the tours are soooo worth taking. The Von Trapp family story is nothing like the Sound of Music. It's is HUGELY more interesting and the history tour gave me a whole new appreciation for them. The sugar mill, apple cider press tours are impressive too. Be sure to taste what a "real" apple cider and maple syrup tastes like. I'm not a fan of these two things but what the Trapp Lodge makes tasts AMAZING. The activities available are very, very good...they must have a great program director and Chris, the guide is fabulous. He's got alot of history with that resort and he tells the tales with such enthusiasm and fun that you never once want to look at your watch. The Fitness Center is top notch. Go to Trapp and see what a truly historical resort is like. I don't think I'd be happy in the "plain" hotels again. You won't be sorry you spent the extra money and every staff member was extremely helpful and friendly. I felt like I was being treated like a millionaire! Don't underestimate this resort as perhaps not being trendy. It is an experience all it's own.

Wonderful place to stayPosted Oct 15, 2013
Cons: A mini-bar would have been nice, or at least an option for very late night drinks or snacking.
We'd definitely go back to the Trapp lodge. I don't have time ot write more, but Expedia is requiring me too. Stay there. You won't be dissapointed.

Mountain RetreatPosted Oct 8, 2013
Pros: There were many activities on the hotel grounds (a huge farm), so we felt no need to go anywhere else, and we loved learning its history.
Cons: A shuttle to town would be convenient.
Location: The grounds offered a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. A farmers market and the town itself were a short drive away for shopping.
The hotel is charming, surrounded by the most beautiful mountain scenery. The fall foliage was gorgeous as we hiked one of the many wooded trails on the property. Any other season would likely be as beautiful in its own way. The bakery/brewery offered delicious apple strudel and a limited edition beer, Oktoberfest, that was wonderful.

EnjoyablePosted Aug 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
As an "outdoor" kind of person, I enjoyed the three days in the woods. My husband, not so much. He was a little bored. If you enjoy hiking, trees, animals...etc.. then this is the place for you. If you are a sports/beach kind of person, this is not for you.

We were at Stowe for the Stowe lax tournament and this was the perfect location to the fields. The hotel was great. Can't wait to come back next year!

Beautiful viewsPosted Jul 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
I had checked numerous hotels on line and saw the lodge pictures. The hotel is located up a mountain drive surrounded by trees. Upon viewing the hotel I was delighted. The hotel was picturesque and the grounds beautiful. Our room faced the mountains and I left the curtain open to wake in the morning to the clouds resting on the peaks. The distance to town is excellent for driving to restaurants, etc. I am not a skier, and this is the first time I was in Vermont, I would definitely come back.
