“A little lacking...”

I have been to St. Ignace many times, and I would say that this was the most unpleasant hotel stay I have had. The hotel is an older property and is at the cheaper end of the spectrum (other first choices were already full...), so I was not expecting high end lodging. The "included continental breakfast" was almost non-existant, which in and of itself was not the end of the world. What I did not expect was to find one of the hotel employees in the "breakfast room" yelling at hotel patrons to get out. The disgruntled employee then stormed out of the room to his waiting golf cart and proceeded to sprint across the 50 yards of parking lot to the office with what can best be described as "no regard" for the safety of children present at the time. The pool was usable, but certainly not up to normal clean water standards. My 13 year daughter and her friend took it upon themselves to net the largest floating debris out of the water (it is an indoor pool, so you would think debris would be less of an issue...). The pool and the hot tub had that scum ring you get around the edge, when you haven't cleaned your bathtub in a while... The room itself had a damp / musty odor, which my kids commented upon immediately upon entry. Not a huge deal, as it was not where we intended to spend much time other than sleeping. A little more attention to cleanin and customer service would go a long ways...

“Will stay on the island.”

Thought we would save money by being off the island, however, being Labor Day Weekend, rates were not discounted and the round trip ferry ride limited our activity time. Next time will stay on the island.

“Save your money”

Maid was really nice but breakfast consisted of some cereals toast and bagels. Pool was in another building across the parking lot. Older hotel, more like a motel.

“Will NOT visit St. Ignace again, CHEAP hotel (quality, not referring to price)”

This hotel was relatively clean, but for the cost it was WAY overpriced. Additionally, it was across the street from the lake, which was not visible, and on the farthest end of town, so I don't know how they could justify their cost. If not for a cancellation fee, we DEFINITELY would have left. We saw many hotels advertising cheaper prices that were right on the lake. This is a cheap, poorly constructed 2 story motel. At 1:30 in the morning I had to call the front desk because the animals in the room next door were partying on the balcony, and the smoke from their cigarettes was billowing in our room. I'll give the mgr credit as he was apologetic and appeared to have dealt with it quickly. The room was VERY spartan - inexpensive, cheap furnishings, no decorations. It did have a TV, and soap, a small fridge and a small one cup coffee maker. Continental breakfast was minimal, but they did have bagels, cereal, juice, coffee and fruit. No hardboiled eggs or waffles, etc. Dining in St. Ignace was a pain. On a Friday night, we ended up going to FIVE retaurants that were were quite expensive per entree. We ended up at Jose's Cantina with entrees just SLIGHTLY below the others. After TWO SOLID HOURS we finally got our food, which was out of a box, out of a can, or frozen. UGH. We left the hotel at 7:00, didn't get back until 10:15 after all our dining "fun". STAY IN MACKINAW CITY! Lots more dining options, with good food at reasonable prices, plus MUCH better hotels.

Area recommendations
Stay in Mackinaw City. If you really need to stay in St. Ignace, be sure you look for a hotel on the LAKE side, and CAREFULLY look at pictures of the hotel and surrounding area. Go to Google Maps and look at the street view. We did enjoy the museums in St. Ignace - one of them is free, just donations, and while not professionally curated had some amazing Native American items. Really ask around and find out where the locals eat. Dining was a complete pain, and ridiculously expensive. There are some silly tourist souvenir shops that have been there forever, so go! Also see Babe the Blue Ox and Paul Bunyon and climb the top of the mountain. Go further north one hour and hike to Tahquamenon Falls. Definitely worth it. Love this part of the state, and have been many times. Just will never stay in St. Ignace again!
Outdoors or beach
MUST go see Tahquamenon Falls, only 1 hr north of St. Ignace. Wear your comfortable hiking tennies and enjoy the outdoors. Bring bug spray! Don't just sprint to the falls - really take a look at nature. If you have a little more time, go north on County Road 500, just off US 123 by Tahquamenon Falls. CR 500 is a gravel, WINDING road, but go. Take it all the way (14 miles, but nearly one hour!) to Lake Superior to the campground at the mouth of the Two Hearted River. Pick rocks on the amazing, stunning shore of Lake Superior. Bring LOTS of bug spray - the black flies are vicious. Bring your aqua shoes to wade in the lake and bags to collect rocks in. Some of the prettiest scenery you'll ever see. If you get lucky maybe you'll see a moose or a black bear. Pick delicious wild blueberries.
