“trip to Mackinaw Island”

Enjoyed the stay. the complex is made up of 2 buildings. Food was of continental style. Food o.k. not extordinary. Location was good and the complex had rental bikes that were cheaper than off the street.

Area recommendations
mainnly to walk up and down the main drag and shop or visit the stores. Boat ride over was better with Arnold Lines. Seas were rough coming over and boat seemed to handle them o.k.
When to go
Oct 10 thru 20 for best fall color.

“Wonderful, charming place -- but the staff isn't all that friendly.”

wonderful harbor views, easy walking distance from attractions, great room, but the staff could smile, or be a little more friendly. Efficient, just not that friendly. With small boutique hotels, generally I expect a very friendly staff. Continental breakfast is OK -- only served until 9:30. No other hot breakfast available, and nothing close as far as I could determine. Bikes to rent, but they looked well used. We considered renting them, because they were less expensive then the rental places on the island, but we just decided to walk. All in all.. it was a wonderful hotel and we enjoyed the stay. Oh, beds are comfortable but pillows lack and no extra pillows.

Area recommendations
The island is beautiful and activities enjoyable. Don't miss a stop at the Grand Hotel and the other island tourist spots. Bike ride around the lake would be very enjoyable but we didn't get a change, due to rainy weather.
When to go
We really loved going in fall, as the autumn colors were amazing, but weather is unpredictable. The crowds are not as bad as in summer.
Getting there
We booked our ferry transfer on line -- took Star line and received a discount for purchasing on line. S4 off per person on a round trip passage. The trip out of St. Ignace is shorter, but we came from across the top of the state, so it was easier for us.
Getting around
Bikes, walking or horse drawn taxi
Dining
We enjoyed our dinner at Sea Bisquit on the main street -- the tomato bisque was amazing and the staff very friendly. Yankee Rebel was OK -- but not the best, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Of course, the fudge was amazing at both places we stopped at.

“Great stay at the Harbour View”

Very nice stay. Hotel is a little ways away from the ferry port so can be a walk with bags. Friendly staff - b&b rooms are small - prefer carriage house or newer annex. Nice breakfast tho room is crowded, Tax is around 26% over room cost so be prepared!

“Loved it!”

Harbour View Inn is a gem! Our room was fantastic...clean, comfortable, charming and with an amazing view of the harbor over the rooftop of the main building as well as of the lovely gardens below from our gabled window. I could have simply sat there for hours reading and watching the ships sail past the lighthouse. The Inn is located well past the clogged downtown area and even during the busiest time of day its relatively quiet and peaceful. Staff were friendly and accomodating. The Continental Breakfast was satisfying without being too heavy. All the Island's sights and activities were within easy walking distance, and it never felt like we had to go far to stop back at our room for a rest or to freshen up before the next adventure. We'd return to Harbour View in a heartbeat!

“OK”

The initial room we got didn't have an air conditioning, and the room was very hot when we arrived. They were nice and prompt to switch our room to the air conditioned one when we complained. The new room had a slanted ceiling because of the location on the top floor, so we bumped our head several times. The good thing about this B&B was the low price, clean room, and the location. Otherwise, the room was just OK.

“Roomy, great location, good breakfast”

Separate sleeping quarters from roomy seating area. Small patio seating overlooking garden. Easy walk to downtown area. Lunch at Grand Hotel is a must!! Mid June Lilacs were still in bloom and gorgeous. Check temperature for a jacket.

“Forgot to deliver luggage to ferry :-(”

The Harbour View Inn is a wonderful hotel and a great location. Unfortunately the hotel staff is not responsible. Before arriving to Mackinaw Island we were informed by the hotel that hotel staff would be available at the ferry docks to help carry luggage to the hotel. Upon arrival to Mackinaw Island the hotel staff told us where our luggage was and provided us directions to get to the hotel, but never offered any luggage service. Once we arrived at the hotel the check in process was seamless and the stay was nice. However, upon departure from the hotel we had more luggage issues. The hotel asks you to drop off your luggage at the main house a ½ hour prior to the ferry leaving. We were planning on being on the 11 am ferry so we dropped off our luggage by 10 a.m. We were asked to put our luggage in a specific area of the main lobby and it would be delivered to the ferry docks by 10:50 am. When we arrived at the ferry docks we could not locate our luggage in the baggage area and the ferry operators said it was probably already on the ferry, so we boarded the ferry. After arriving in Mackinaw City, where the ferry unloads, we waited to and discovered our luggage was not delivered. We called the hotel and they informed us that our luggage had been moved and they would take it to the ferry docks for the next ferry. When all was finished, we waited almost 2 hours in Mackinaw City for our luggage to be delivered. This was a very disappointing way to end the trip.

“Not your typical B&B, Continental Breakfast”

After our check in at the inn, we never saw another employee in our building. Shouldn't be advertized as a B&B. Breakfast very disappointing. Continnental Breakfastat best. Will reccommend as a value on the Island but prepare folks on what to expect. Didn't meet our expectations. The room was small but very clean. Okay, if you aren't planning to be in the room much.

Getting around
We arrived on the Island at 3pm and rented bikes for overnight. Great value! Saw the sights that afternoon and rode around the Island after breakfast the next day. turned the bikes inat 10 am. $25.00 a bike alot better than paying the hourly fees.
Dining
You have to go to the Sea Biscuit for a meal. The atmoshere was Great and the food was Wonderful! Kind of wish we had eatten all our meals there.
