Beatiful Grounds and a Heritage Ambience

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: The unique heritage feeling and beauiful setting.
Cons: access for the disabled
Location: St. Marys is a beautiful stone built town which has managed to preserve its heritage features. Stratford Festival, is about 15Km
Unique heritage features give a true old world feeling to the Hotel and its surrounds. The room was smaller than usually found in a motel but , as in older times, had a true individuality of its own. Because of the nature of the buildings , I believe significantly disabled clients would have difficulties achieving full enjoyment of the facilities here., but for others it can be highly recommended

a bit far from Stratford theatres.

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Hopeless
We were in a separate buildings with six or seven rooms beside the swimming pool (closed). Used old fashioned key to enter. The room is small, dark, even when the ceiling, bedside tables are on. It has no view to speak off. An antique 20 inchTV (Electrohome), is operablel with a 10- 20 channels remote. Bathroom is clean but small. Shower is acceptable. This room gives me a feeling to just sleep, wash, and get out as quickly as possible. The parking lot between the pool and the building is supposed to accommodate all customers ( I think). When we got back after the show in Stratford about midnight, we had no luck. We had to park on the lawn. Although the Inn has a restaurant for breakfast and dinner in the main building, we did not use it because of inconvenience. Coming back from the theatre at night, it was difficult to find the Inn because of poor signage. On checking out, the clerk wanted to charge me for the one night stay. I said I already prepaid Expedia. It took her a little while to clear that up. Overall, it's not worth for the money I paid and I shall not return.

A pastoral retreat

Posted Aug 16, 2014
We stayed at the Westover Inn while attending the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario and loved it! We needed to "unwind" and relax-- and this was the perfect place to do that. It was quiet! What a joy-- sleeping in every day and then eating an "out of this world" breakfast... Then off to the theater for afternoon performances. We rode bikes around St Mary's and chatted with the local town folk who were very friendly. But most of all, it was the quality of the staff and the food that were excellent! The staff were kind people who wanted you to have a nice stay. And the food... The food at Every meal was perfect! Perfectly cooked poached eggs, homemade jellies, deserts to die for-- homemade ice creams and chocolate cake! It was a perfect 4 days!

Westover

Stayed as alternative to Stratford. Beautiful grounds. Staff were very hospitable, however the smal room we got was overpriced for one evening. Breakfast was not included unless you paid more.

A Little Bit of History

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Our family had the opportunity to stay at the Westover Inn and really enjoyed it. The grounds were beautiful and welcoming. We were able to have a picnic lunch in the shade of some beautiful trees. It was neat to think that the part we stayed in used to be a residence. We had two rooms and they were decorated differently which adds charm to the setting.

Main hotel may be nice; the annex was very poor

Posted Oct 26, 2013
Pros: Breakfast was good
Cons: Either re-model or close down the Terrace
Location: St Mary's is an attractive town and the hotel is pleasantly situated close to the river
We stayed only for one night in a room in a former seminary now called the Terrrace. It didn't seem to have changed that much since its seminary days. The only description was "institutional" with small rooms, stark white corridors and an uncomfortable bed. We were not at all impressed.

BIG Disapointment!

Posted Oct 21, 2013
Pros: The setting is beautiful....set up on a small hillside with the water across the street.
Cons: The rates were too high for the quality of lodging. Someone needs to invest some time and money into making it beautiful again.
The Westover Inn is badly in need of renovations. The rooms are small, damp and very 1970's. The carpet in our room was badly stained, the linens were very poor quality, and you could almost see through the bath towels. There was a chair placed in the door way of the bathroom (the only available space in the room) which you had to walk around to get into the bathroom. We had to leave the light on in order not to fall if we got up in the night. We also noticed that the pool was still opened, table umbrellas were still up and pool noodles were floating in the water.....as the sleet was falling. This was a huge red flag that nothing is being properly cared for. We discussed our concerns when checking out. The staff all agreed that it is in disrepair but they are not in the Inn Keepers. It could be beautiful again as it was years ago!

Scenic Grounds and great views, Character of Hotel

Posted Oct 20, 2013
Pros: The grounds would be very nice in season.
Breakfast was excellent, unfortunately unable to stay for dinner. Staff very, very friendly and helpful. TV rather old, however this was not of interest to us.

Nice family-run inn. Could use a bit of updating. Also, just changing the 1-ply toilet tissue to 2-ply would change the experience. It is the little things. Food and service are good.
