Large overcrowded hotel

Pros: Not much.
Cons: Everything.
Location: We didn`t stay long enough to find out.
On arriving hotel looked ok and nicely situated. However, there is no table service and everything has to be ordered at the bar. Awkward and inconvenient. Hotel toilets very small and cramped for the size of the building. Had to book the room over the internet and was allocated a double room but was not allowed to know which room, that was only disclosed on arrival The room we were allocated was small and very basic. About the size of a single room with a small double bed and cheap, uncomfortable with cheap, uncomfortable pillows and duvet hardly big enough for two. Couldn`t get any sleep at all due to the constant noise through the walls and from outside. The sound of drunken yobs partying outside lasted half the night accompanied by screaming seagulls. We had booked the weekend but packed and left by five in the morning. It was intolerable.

Great location, poorly run.

Pros: The location and views.
Cons: An improvement in the bar and restaurant facilities.
Location: We enjoyed an evening watching the various types of boating that were going on during diner and again from a nearby coffe shop the following day.
What a fantastic location, with great views from our room. And the room was small but in good decorative order and clean. The seating area outside the bar/restaurant was a great place to spend a sunny evening. On the downside everything was just a bit grubby in the public areas, the reception counter was sticky, wine glasses were dirty, outside eating area was messy. I also had t wander about looking for the receptionist when we arrived. The bar is like any chain pub in the uk. No local dishes on offer, just the usual chicken, ribs, steaks etc and a carvey (which we didn't try). The quality of this food on offer was fine, just the choice was a bit disappointing. We decided not to have breakfast there, partly because diner wasn't very inspiring, partly because we had a lazy morning. To sum up, everything above the ground floor was great; clean, attractive, comfortable room with great views. Downstarirs was more like a Wetherspoons pub.

Service was nice and fast, comfortable beds and everything was nice and clean. Internet access was a good speed and the food was also pretty nice. I would stay again if in the area.

Poor staffing

Hotel was good. Staff training leaves much to be desired. Apart from lady on reception most staff showed no initiative especially around the bar area. Will not be staying again.

Ambiance

Comparing the price of the room with similarly priced hotels we found the ambiance to be more ' canteen style', than we would have expected. No specific complaints as room was ok as was the food ( not carvery )but people walking around with plates piled high from the carvery was off putting .breakfast was a hassle as there were queues at the buffet but when we got it the food was ok.

I always stay here when I have to be in lowestoft. It is in a beautiful location, decent restaurants and pubs nearby, easy parking, clean, quiet rooms, huge English breakfasts. I used to stay at the seaside hotels but this is so much nicer.

As I was on business it was just a quick stop... but the hotel was in a good position to explore the broads, and the room rate was reasonable. ....Good breakfast served.

Good location, and a lovely view, well it would have been had I been given a room with a view ... my room had a view of a bar on the other side of the road and a fairly busy road as well, but it was OK and reasonably comfortable

I spent a couple of nights here for a weekend break and was very impressed. The hotel itself is lovely - well decorated and the room had everything needed. The food was excellent - easy to go overboard on the full English! Also the carvery was the best I've had and great value. Will definitely return.
