"An amazing value in Silicon Valley"
I booked here when my usual go-to place, the swingin' Rat Pack-themed Wild Palms, didn't have a room with two beds available. Looking at photos online, I thought the Maple Tree appeared staid by comparison -- that it lacked personality. But the price was right, they served breakfast, the hotel had a pool, and reviews were largely positive.
The hotel's exterior is modest, even a bit bland. The lobby is nice but unassuming. But the desk staff was friendly and accommodating, coffee is served all day (it stays nicely hot in an airpot), and the hotel has indoor hallways. There's also an on-site laundry room (one load costs $4.50 total, incl washer, dryer, and soap), which came in handy.
Most impressive were the room furnishings and bathroom fixtures and finishes -- they're on par with those found in Hyatt or similar class hotels. Luxurious beds and bedding with firm, comfortable mattresses. Outstanding shower. High-end toiletries. In-room fridge, microwave and coffee maker. (If you like your coffee strong, use 2 pouches per cup.)
Breakfast is served from 5 am weekdays and 6 am on weekends -- perfect for those trying to catch flights or make early meetings. Breakfast is what you'd expect -- breads and pastries, cereals, yogurt, fruit, eggs, meats, waffles -- but it seemed more varied than Wild Palms. And the coffee wasn't too weak!
Sorry, Wild Palms. Looks like I have a new go-to place in the Valley. Maple Tree may not beat your cool vibe, but it wins on everything else.
