We managed to book an apartment for part of a long weekend last month a few weeks before our stay, which meant paying a little more (which we were okay with doing due to the lateness of the booking, and the great reviews). After the first night, the fact that we’d payed more than normal stung a little.
The resort is in a great location - it’s less than 5 minutes walk to the beach, and a 2 minute drive/15 minute walk into the town - and the multiple pools looked okay! The two bedroom apartment we were in, however, was disappointing. It was very dated, and looked worn out in general. The couch in the living room was filthy/covered in suspicious stains. The bathroom didn’t feel clean at all, to the point where we wore thongs (of the shoe variety) in the shower, and the toilet sounded like it was running/being flushed constantly, even though it wasn’t, which wasn’t too pleasant while trying to get to sleep. Sleeping was difficult enough from all the sandfly bites that we got from being inside, as a window in one of the bedrooms had been left open before we arrived (it was open upon arrival to the room). In addition to this, we found a cockroach in the bed when we woke up on the last morning. The apartment also smelt like smoke, even though we were told it was a “non-smoking” apartment; the smoke was coming through the balcony from the people smoking on the balcony next to ours.
Fortunately the great weather meant we had to spend as little time in the room as possible!
