A Cheap Place to Stay in SuzhouPosted Oct 3, 2010 on Hotels.com
I would recommend this hotel to someone who wants something cheap and is okay with something not quite up to general American hotel standards. Our first room did not have working internet access, and smelled like someone bathed their dogs in the room for several months. Luckily we got switched to another room, and it was much better. The beds are SUPER hard, but I actually slept pretty well regardless. Sometimes the towels smelled like smoke, and bleach does not seem to be commonly used in this hotel branch, or maybe in China in general. The Motel 168 that we are now at in Nanjing is much cleaner. The staff was fairly helpful, and between our ok Chinese and their small amount of English we did ok with translations. Taking a taxi from the train station to the hotel was really cheap. However, the hotel can't call a taxi to the door of the hotel, but you can get one about a block away. The hotel is in a convenient central location, with a huge strip mall that is open late about one block away, with tons of food and 3 KFC's. The Temple of Mystery is also just across the alley. We could walk to the main garden attractions in Suzhou, but it is about a mile to walk to any of them. If you do stay in a Motel 168 with another person in the same room, make sure they are someone you trust, because there is a window from the bedroom into the shower. So you can see straight through!
