good budget hotel, location is ok.

maybe a 5 to 10min walk to elizabeth street or oxford street. the building hosts three different hotels which seems to belong to the same group. the abey is probably the budget one of those three, but much better than any double backpacker room we habe experienced. the rooms are a bit older in reality as the look on the pics. the hotel is badly soundproofed like almost every builing in down under. WIFI available, but the NOT for free...which I would expect in a hotel in sydney! Pool is quite small and somehow no one ever seen swimming in there..pool location is kind of crab.

Considering we booked as a couple 2 single beds wasn't what we were looking for and the hotel staff offered no assistance to relocate to a room with a double bed.

Location

Pros: Staff were very attentive and professional.
Cons: What is says on wotif, translates to the same thing at the hotel
Location: Christophers Cakes and Alchemy restaurant were excellent.
We booked a mystery queen bed for two, ended up having twin share. Room was average but the hotel was very noisy from 8am in the morning. A bit confusing as the hotel seems to be in the process of changing its name either from Abey or to Cambridge. I couldn't figure it out.

Stay at Abbey Hotel

I stayed at this hotel with family during our first ever visit to Australia. Hotel is in perfect location close to convenient stores and a few minutes walk from George Street. I would recommend this hotel.

Lovely staff

Great staff who treated myself and the kids well. The building had been given a superficial makeover but for the price and service, worth staying in.

get what you pay for

Room was okay, the carpark is horrible - my mini suv was a massive struggle to manoeuvre into a park. A pre-set alarm woke us at 5:30am and the lights were flickering on and off.

Oxford St

The Abey and the Cambridge are the same property. Have stayed at both. The Abey's rooms are around the indoor pool area which can become quite noisy. Staying 1 or 2 nights, book the Abey due to price. Awesome location. One block from Oxford St.
