Classic style hotel.Posted Sep 4, 2014
Pros: Architecture and the general impression it made. Location.
Cons: Bar and restaurant access.
Location: Very close to the Mall and the city centre. Shopping, shows, sightseeing, Museum and Art Gallery, the list of things to do is endless.
The Castlereagh is a classic style hotel within easy working distance of the city centre. Entering the lobby was a very pleasant experience. The on duty attendant was particularly helpful on checkin. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm. The room was a little small but adequate. Unfortunately the kitchen had an issue that evening which was not communicated to diners. There were several unhappy people in the restaurant. The restaurant did wrap my meal as a takeaway so I would not be late for my concert so should be acknowledged for that. The restaurant and bar have limited hours which is a disadvantage.

Cons: Better windows in the bathrooms to reduce the noise
Location: close to the train station, close to circular quay, fantastic location for shopping
A bit noisy as our room was located at the front, and the road traffic was quite loud.

wonderful old style hotel, very quiet.Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Clean, quiet, helpful staff.
Cons: nothing I can think of.
Location: Walking distance of anything in the city, we walked to a show at the Casino, walked to the Centre Point tower, walked to paddy's market.
we enjoyed a relaxing drink in the Lounge, staff were very helpful, walking distance to Darling Harbour. Desk staff helped an old chap outside to get a cab as they said as he was only going a short distance they wouldn't come on a phone call. Little thing like that make you say "yes we will stay here again next year". The breakfast was filling and the waitress was a gem. Plus 200mts and we were at the start of the City to Surf.

Excellent location, plenty of old school charmPosted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: You can's beat the location
Cons: Nothing really
Location: You're right in the CBD so there's no limit to the things you can do nearby.
I stayed for one night but everything was looked after, the room was clean and the staff helpful. It's an old building which is quite charming but is as comfortable as any more modern hotel.

Great locationPosted Jul 29, 2014
Prices could be lower as accomodation is only at a budget level. Clean, quiet. Bar staff on level 2 very friendly & helpful. The whole place does smell a little old. Maybe new carpets??

Nice hotel, good locationPosted Jul 22, 2014
The highlight of our stay were the staff who were both friendly and helpful. The low would have been the air conditioning blowing cold air even though it was set to 24! And the hot water in the bathroom took a while to kick in. Overall it was a comfortable hotel stay that is conveniently located to shops and public transport. Plus Darling Harbour; Circular Quay and The Rocks are only a 10-15 minute walk away.

Great staff, very handy location. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere. Only criticism is that on my last two visits, the bed has been HARD.
