“We hope to return to the Great Southern. Lovely stay!”

This is my third 3 night visit. I love the hotel for the convenient location, polite staff, the clean and nicely decorated rooms and the excellent restaurant. My elderly parents loved it and want to return ASAP. The rooms we had are quite large and easy for elderly people to get around in. The restaurant food is delicious and so reasonable in price.The steak special at $10.90 is a bargain. I could eat it every day! My parents and sister tried various dishes and were happy with everything. Hotel staff, including security staff, are on the ball and friendly and polite. This is better than a home away from home! I highly recommend this as a great base for a Sydney stay. Booking online is the way to go for a great rate.

“Tops and Bottoms”

Business class hotel. If you are wanting a hotel close to another venue, note that Sydney blocks are loooong! It takes about 5 mnutes to walk a block- and I walk fast. No broadband internet- just dial-up. But there are multiple internet cafes within steps from the property. Right across from the Paddys Chinatown market where one can find the best Australian gifts for cheap Thurs-Sun.

“Typical of Sydney”

This hotel saved us a great deal of stress and discomfort following our 9 hour flight from Hong Kong. It was so close to the Central Station that we managed to drop bags off, grab a coffee and hit the shops before we could say G'day mate! Excellent service and a nice bar in the same building as the hotel. It was a great location about - a 15 minute walk from the restaurants in Darling Harbour and close to bars and shops.

“Great Southern Hotel - Sydney”

We spent a total of 5 days at this hotel, and received fine treatment both times. It is close to public transportation, and shopping. Breakfasts are super, and the staff is excellent.

“Convenient to Central Station”

A comfortable hotel located within walking distance from Central Station. We were lucky to be upgraded to a larger room without request. Room was very comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities, bathroom good and well equipped, large and pleasant foyer and good breakfast selection.

“Very helpful”

We enjoyed a five night stay here a few weeks ago, and the prices were very reasonable, the staff were very helpful, and the rooms were clean. Though the room was a bit small, it was comfortable. Recommended to any travellers!

“Excellent location”

Rooms are small , but adequate. Bathroom has shower only, which is sufficient. . Located on main George st. with rear entrance giving access to China Town and 10 minutes walk to Darling harbour. Excellent value for money. Desk staff very helpful and professional.

“Can be remarkably quiet”

To add a few things. I didn't query the desk staff since I knew my way around Sydney. But they checked me in at 9am without question after the endless flight so points for that. Many rooms overlook an interior covered atrium so are always quiet. But the walls are thin, you can hear next door. Breakfast is expensive compared to options a couple of blocks away. Has a fitness center that I didn't use. Hot water in the good shower. Closer to U. Sydney than downtown, just around corner from Central station and airport rail link. Overall, good value in an expensive city.

“Excellent Place to stay”

We were in Sydney for only 2 days, and had to get a lot done. This property is well located, near the railroad station, tram lines, and many buses. There is a large internet cafe across the street, as well as the local YHA, with an excellent restaurant (not gourmet, but good at a fair value). You can take a free walking tour with the YHA staff and will see all the places you must come back to. Our only problem, the toilet. It would work and then the fixture would stick and there'd be no water in the tank. They "fixed" it twice, but I bet it's still not working right. Otherwise, comfortable room, good bed, lovely bathroom, good amenities.
