“Over-rated hotel without free WiFi & far from central business district CBD”

Purchased "blind" as four and half star hotel property in Sydney. Disappointed to see poor ratings by other customers after being locked into to this hotel. Particularly vexing was lack of complimentary WiFi access and lack of free breakfast buffet. Compensated by purchase of weekly city rail pass from Mascot station 3 blocks away and commuted daily to CBD during my five night stay. Found free unlimited internet access at main library near St. James and Martin Place stations. Also can easily find some coffee shops w. free WiFi. Otherwise must pay high prices at hotel at more than $22/day. To compensate for high food prices at hotel and at restaurants bought food at supermarket located at Biondi Park city rail stop. There is also an IGA market not too far from hotel. Front desk and housekeeping staffs were very helpful efficient and friendly. Hotel furnishings are a little dated but functional. No CNN or BBC among channel selections on free in room cable TV. Free airport shuttle from airport but costs $6. to return.

Steer clear of nearby coffee shops and cafes are overpriced and with rude service

“Decent Hotel; Close to the Air Port, far from the City Center”

Typical Holiday Inn experience. Great service, slightly-above average room, amenities. As mentioned above, very close to the air port, but far from the city's center. Nothing within walking distance outside of the hotel, either. Great place to stay if you want to be close to the air port (when in town on business, maybe). If you are looking for a place to stay while on vacation, I would recommend paying a little more and finding a spot more centrally located.

“Definitely return but please improve the internet service”

Arriving in Sydney from LAX at 06:30 after 15 hours in a packed Airbus 380, the Holiday Inn offers exactly what you need... a warm shower and a very comfortable bed. What it doesnt offer is a reasonable internet access...$ 25 AUS for 100 MB of access is criminal! Staff are very friendly and the breakfast buffet is good, if also expensive.

“Don't bother”

This hotel was supposed to be 4.5 stars, but was old, not very clean and quite dated and run-down. I picked the hotel because it was close to Sydney airport, but I would have been better off taking the airport train into downtown Sydney, as the cost of a taxi to the airport hotel was $13, and there was not shuttle offered and walking was not possible. There was nowhere nearby to get breakfast in the morning except at the hotel. The staff were unhelpful, putting us in a twin room and only after we went to the room and returned to the reception were they able to offer us a queen room with disabled access/bathroom. Its very easy and fast to get the airport train straight to downtown Sydney, for very little more than the cost of the taxi to this hotel, where the hotels are higher quality, there are more options, more places to eat and the scenery is much nicer.

“Good spot before flight home”

This is a great place to stay before catching the long flight home to America. The rooms are large, clean, and room service is quick. The only down side is the $27 charge for 24 hours of internet service or $10 an hour. Come on Holiday Inn. You can get free wi-fi at McDonalds in Australia. It's time for Holiday Inn to enter the 21st Century. The Mascot train station is a short walk away and it's a 10 minute ride into the CBD. This was our second stay at this hotel. We stayed for 5 nights during New Year's day in 2007 and the train worked well for getting in and out of the city.

“A good basic airport hotel”

The hotel was clean and the room nicely furnished. Staff were friendly. I would have liked to have seen WiFi available in the room. These days many people don't travel with laptops and work from iPhones etc which don't allow for Ethernet connection. There appeared to be nothing around the hotel except office buildings but it is near the airport so that is expected. You can get a van to the hotel from the International Airport for less than $15 I believe - I got a taxi to the hotel from the International Airport and it was approx $25. For the price, it was good and I would stay there again if I needed to stay near the airport. There are two restaurants in the hotel. No salon or little shops etc. There is also a pool but I didn't see it for myself. in hindsight I would stay somewhere in town as there is the airtrain that takes you directly to the city from the International terminal for $15 (one way).

Area recommendations
Head downtown. It's very easy to get the Airtrain to the city center for $15 dollars. The trip takes approx 20 minutes so even if you need to return to the airport the next day you can still easily see some of the city.
Getting there
The Airtrain (completed in 2000) runs approx every 10 minutes or so between the International Terminal and Domestic, to the city. It stops at all major city train stations (St James, Central, Circular Quay - that's where the Opera House is etc) and Wynyard. It took approx 20 minutes to go from Wynyard to the International Terminal and was $15 one way from that station. Even if you only have 3 hours in Sydney, you can easily jump on the train, head to Circular Quay and have some lunch while looking at the Harbor Bridge and Opera House. For disabled: The train itself is ok for the disabled although if you are dealing with a wheelchair there is a gap between the station platform and train at Circular Quay. There are elevators from the platform to street level. From there you can move around the Quay (pronounced "key") quite easily. I took the Ferry to Manly and that trip would be accessible to wheelchair travelers as well. I noticed no gaps getting on or off the Ferry and the boat itself should present no problems. Ramps are available throughout the trip to Manly.

“will not stay again”

Chose this hotel for proximity to airport due to departure the following day. Extremely disappointed with hotel staff as they made no apparent attempts to control noise at late hour. Hotel has open ceiling from ground floor to the first floor. Our room was on the first floor. The bar was located on the ground floor and all noise from the bar could be heard in our room. Called front desk at 10:30pm and requested that the doors to the bar, facing the lobby, be closed due to noise level. All doors to the bar were wide open. Was assurred that the issue was being addressed. However, at midnight could still hear yelling, glasses clanging, general "partying". Noise could be hear even with use of ear plugs!!! Complaint was made with front desk upon check out and front desk person brushed off the complaint.

“Serves the purpose!”

The room was very nice and large. A/C worked well. You had to pay to get to the airport. Guess all the hotels charge. The restaurant for lunch or early dinner was in the Bar. Food good but noisy. The main restaurant open for breakfast but found the buffet not the greatest. Coffee bad. All in all we would return. No eating places close by.
