Not the same old, same old...

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: I liked the reception staff, the room, the grounds, the vistas, and the historical charm.
Cons: Room cleaning could be more consistent in its attention to detail.
Location: Ghost walks are probably interesting here but it's not close to anything off site in Manly.
A very unique experience with pleasing vistas and loads of historical charm. I didn't see the ghosts but there was an air of mystery about the grounds which offered a full day of exploration on there own. Its isolation from Manly loses it's charm after a couple of days, especially when relying on inconsistent service from the resort busses to get to the top of the long hill separating the accommodations from reception and public bus stop. Add on another $25 a day for return taxis into Manly. Staff were friendly, and provided excellent service. Mike was especially great, and he made an excellent call by pointing me toward the 4 Pines microbrewery and pub in Manly. Cleaning staff were inconsistent but found their stride toward the end of my stay. The hotel restaurant 'The Boiler House' served an exceptional meal but the serving staff were definitely taxed by a large party and it showed in the service to my table - though to be fair our server was pleasant and worked hard. It's not the same old, same old boutique hotel and is worth a stay.

Lovely stay - alone or with friends

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: People, serenity, comfort and food quality
Cons: It is good the way it is.
Location: Nice location, off the busy Sydney traffic and city. Lovely for nature lovers. Things to do would be reading, walking, cycling, etc.
Very neat, serene and great for nature lovers. Well accessible to Manly beach through ferry. Staff is very friendly and informed. Rooms are spacious, good comfort and well maintained. I stayed only for one night, so won't speak much about room service. But whatever I got to avail, was very nice. I would recommend this place for a nice individual, family or a holiday with friends.

A Different Experience close to the city

Posted Jun 11, 2014
We loved our stay at QStation! You felt like you were away from it all but in the city. You also got to learn a bit of history from Sydney's past and to my daughters delight go on a ghost tour! The beach and surrounds are beautiful and everything is in easy walking distance and there is always a mini bus if you don't feel like walking. We dined at the Boilerhouse which was lovely. We were in a room with the Bathroom outside which was a minimal inconvenience. Both the room and bathroom were clean and nice and warm in winter. The bed was very comfortable! Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a bit of adventure, history or just a comfortable alternate place to stay!

A double experience - comfort and history for the

Posted May 13, 2014
Pros: Historical info, quiet and tranquil, beautiful views, comfy
Cons: Perhaps more variety in food available onsite.
Location: Excellent. Peace and quite, historical, but right near stunning views, beaches, cosmopolitan area (Manly) etc.
We found the unexpected extensive historical experience to be an added and pleasant surprise. We knew the site had been refurbished for accommodation but didn't know how well the history of the site had been documented and displayed for the public. The owners of Q station have been wise to cater for multi uses - day trippers, overnight accommodation, conferences, tours plus having the choice of onsite restaurant and cafe or driving off site. Add the proximity to North Head and Manly. A lot of very different experiences within a very short distance. We stayed in the most basic of rooms (with the detaches bathroom). We didn't really know what to expected. It was surprisingly fine! The rooms are lovely and we're glad that they have been done to match the history of the place. The rooms and bathroom are VERY comfortable. We found the staff to be very helpful and flexible. No problems with the courtesy buses (as I read in previous reviews). Would we go back there again - yes!! I would suggest that if you want 5 star glitz and glamour, stay in the CBD!

Interesting but nice

Q for quirky! Overall a nice place, albeit different. Bit of a hassle not being able to park by your room, but shuttle worked OK. Nice and quiet and peaceful surroundings, good quality accommodation, and some rooms have their (private) bathrooms down the veranda, but would recommend as a nice place to stay away from the hustle and bustle.

Going down hill

Posted Apr 24, 2014
Third time at Q station. Loved the first two but clear cost cutting is detracting from the experience. General maintenance on room not good. Breakfast Buffett got worse each day as not all items were replenished. Probably won't be back. A shame - used to rave about it.

Very interesting place - great walking adventures

Posted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: Very peaceful & quiet
Cons: Just the cooked breakfast - it was cold every morning perhaps the warming dishes need replacing. Great variety but shame it was all cold.
Wonderful wedding venue except for the weather - afraid it rained for the five days we were there. No problem though the wedding was inside !!

Nice location

Posted Mar 30, 2014
This was a very interesting hotel. Since we stayed in a cottage we were able to drive our car to the cottage door. Guests staying in the hotel have to use the shuttle provided by the hotel. The cottage wad very spacious and bathrooms were renovated. The cottage could have been cleaner in the bathrooms. We had two bathrooms but one of the toilets was located in a WC just outside the back door. The front porch had a nice view of the city lights across the harbour and space on porch to sit and look at on the lights. As this is a historical cottage there is no AC. All the rooms have fans but at the height of summer it could be warm in the cottage. The kitchen had fridge and equipped with basics so you could cook meals if you wanted to in the cottage. We enjoyed our step and it was a neat place to stay at least once.

Quiet clean and relaxing

Posted Mar 5, 2014
Pros: The amazing view and the breakfast was awesome. We really enjoyed a rainy afternoon playing pool whilst looking at the view of Sydney harbour & CBD
Cons: We found there were not enough power outlets in the room. Provide shuttle service to manly for guests.
Location: Swim at the beach, Sight see in Manly, Manly Aquarium, hop a ferry to Sydney CBD, do a harbour tour by boat. Do a ghost tour at motel.
The motel is about 8km from Manly. The Motel should provide a shuttle bus to Manly as it cost us $10 each time we wanted to go into Manly.
