“A convenient hotel with superior service”

Too many grand old buildings in Sydney have be demolished. The Radisson Plaza Hotel now occupies one that was saved. The hotel is quiet even though overlooking one of the main thoroughfares. Fron't of house staff provided service without servility and did it with a smile. Well done, chaps. Taxis were at the door and buses and trains only a few blocks away. The bed was comfortable and the bath/shower/lavatory perfectly clean. There was a mini-bar which I didn't use, but the tea and coffee were. The only downside was that the table was a little too bid for the room. If that's my only gripe I'm doing well. The Radisson Plaza is relatively small and that's a bonus. For business or leisure, check it out. There are even occasional price specials.

Area recommendations

Close to the Sydney Harbour. The rest of the city is pretty ordinary - see one city you see them all these days. Travellers, if you want to see Australia, Sydney is a very small part. Take time away from it.

Getting around

Take public transport. Trains are a bit grubby, but on the whole cover a lot of the city and run regularly. If you want to visit areas beyond the metropolitan area there are several lines, e.g. to the Blue Mountains, Newcastle or Wollongong. None of these trains travel express, but some have limited stops for faster travel. Buses have a more extensive network within the city are, and quite a few drivers get 10 out of 10 for helpfulness. Remember to buy a ticket before catching a bus. Drivers don't sell them. All-day tickets for buses, trains and ferries can be bought at all railway stations and the ferry terminals. There is also a "tourist bus" which is a get-on-get-off set stops so you can see features/points of interest that may attract you.

“Ggod hotel”

The hotel is definitely well located walking distance to almost most of the landmarks and shopping places. The hotel staff were also very nice. Our flt arrived early in the morning and we got to the hotel around 8a. Usually check in was not 'til the afternoon but they were able to accommodate and get us a room considering it seems that day it looked liked they were heavily booked. It was indeed very nice especially we just had a 30 hr journey.

“Excellent hotel”

The location of the hotel is fantastic : only a short stroll to Circular Quay and Sydney Opera House. Staff were very nice and friendly and the room was extremely comfortable(having said that we upgraded to deluxe). The breakfast was one of the best I have encountered in a hotel with a wide variety of food to suit different tastes. All in all we had a wonderful stay!

“Very Nice Hotel”

Sydney is a great city and the Radisson Plaza Hotel Sydney is located in a great location to really feel its vibrancy.

Area recommendations

The rocks is where some good restaurants are located and the hotel is located within walking distance to the harbor, Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. We were able to acquire public bus transportation nearby when needed and taxis were plentiful.

When to go

We went in July (middle of winter in Australia) and only needed a jacket in the evenings and early mornings. It can get a little chilly, but by afternoon, no jacket was necessary. Best to dress in layers.

Must see

The walk between Bondi beach and Coogee beach is well worth the time. Plan an afternoon to take it slow and bring your camera as you walk along the Pacific Ocean.

“A bit dated but staff are great”

Had a really nice stay, the staff are great and we got a really good deal on the room. The lifts are slow though but the fact that that is my biggest complaint suggests there was little wrong with our stay. Would definitely recommend.

“Nice hotel, good central location.”

The hotel was crisp and efficient. Service was good, concierge very helpful. Good base for visiting Sydneys sights and attractions. My husband and were travelling with our 2 children and it worked out. Great. I was sorry not to eat at the Restaurant "Bilstons ", in the hotel. It is supposed to be very good.

Traveler's tip

Didn't charge extra for the kids. I wanted 1 room for the 4 of us. When I was looking for a hotel seemed like an awful lot of the hotels charged for children staying in the same room !
