“Great !”
It was after of a three week tour of Australia and all we wanted to do was relax. It was just what the doctor ordered. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a great view, as our room was facing Bondi Beach. We were in the middle of everything, beach, shops and restaurants.
“Cant wait to go back !”
Great holiday, loved the hotel, lots of places to eat and shop, staff very helpful, nice amenities (gym, pool, business center) AND YOU'RE PRACTICALLY ON THE BEACH!
“Disappointing, Dilapidated”
Hugely disappointing. The hotel is dilapidated and is in serious need of refurbishment. Everything from basic furniture to TV to bathroom fixtures are at least 15-20 years old. Staff is friendly and helpful but unfortunately that cannot make up for tired decor and musty old rooms. I really cannot believe they are able to charge premium rates given the condition of the hotel. Beware travellers booking over the internet, site unseen!
“Not a 5 Star, but has potential!”
This is a difficult review to write because by the end of our stay at the Swiss Grand, we were happy with our room, BUT.... It took moving into THREE rooms (with two kids in tow) to get us to that point. The first room had a bug problem and a very odd lighting system that didn't allow you to turn on the bathroom light without also turning on all the lights in the living room area (not so good if you have a baby sleeping out there). The second room couldn't regulate the temperature of the shower (try washing your hair and bathing kids with that going on) and was RIGHT above the in-house night club. Both of these rooms were SERIOUSLY out dated with TERRIBLE beds. The THIRD room was WONDERFUL! It was one of only a few in the whole hotel that have been renovated - and they did a GREAT job! They do need to figure out how to get ventilation to the mini-fridge so your food has a chance of surviving, but other than that, it was a very nice, modern room with LCD TVs, leather sofa, glass tables, and all around nice furniture and carpeting. The bath was very nicely updated as well. All in all, the hotel did everything they could to make us happy, and for that we are grateful! We were just bummed that so many things went wrong that needed addressing. Hopefully they can find a way to get the rest of the rooms updated so everyone can be happy. ...Also, they have a very nice and knowledgeable concierge that I greatly appreciated! :-) Beautiful views as well! Good food nearby too!
“Enjoyed Bondi Beach!!”
Just returned from one week in Sydney; stayed at the Swiss Spa Resort the whole time and really enjoyed it. The location is great; no more than 5 min walk to Bondi Beach; bus stop right around the corner to take you to into the main part of Sydney (Darling Harbor, Circular Quay, etc...). Staff were helpful and friendly; room was comfortable and roomy (I was by myself). Didn't try out the spa part of the hotel nor did I eat in the restaraunts (the restaraunts seemed expensive such as $30 continental breakfast). There is a small coffee/pastry shop set up in the lobby with good stuff. There is a business center with two desktops with free internet (20 min max) if you need it. No problem walking around the neighborhood after dark; there is lots of foot traffic in that area. Quite a few places to eat and shop at Bondi Beach though I was surprised at the relatively high cost of eating out. There are Hungry Jacks (Burger King) and McDonalds for more affordable fare as well as several convenience stores. At most of the other places expect to pay approx $20-$30 per person per meal (Burger/fries/drink for example). There are several good pizza places as well as Thai, seafood, and good smoothie and ice cream/gelato shops.
“great location, hotel needs improvement”
This hotel has a great location and is beautiful from the outside, however I feel like they have not updated the rooms in quite some time. This hotel would get very high rankings if they put some money into the comforts of the room. Still probably the only place to stay if you want to be at Bondi Beach. Service was so-so. Never seemed like the concierge was around, but when you do talk to someone, they are helpful.
“hOTEL NEEDS UPDATING”
THE HOTEL NEEDS A BIT OF UPDATING FOR HOW HIGH IT IS RATED STAR WISE. YOU COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER LOCATION TO ENJOY THE BEACH AREA IN BONDI
“Great location, but age is showing”
We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in December 2009. The location cannot be beat directly across beach and next to nice restaurants. This must have been a 5 star hotel when it opened with crown molding and interesting decor, but it has not been updated for long time. The carpets and rooms look old and there is a smell you won't find in a modern hotel but nevertheless we found this place booked through expedia a great value for the location and Bondi Beach appears to be lacking a true 5 star hotel. So, if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg per night this is a good choice.
“Swiss Grand - a bit long in the tooth, but still the best at Bondi”
The Swiss Grand was the best hotel in Bondi, and we were satisfied; but with that said it is a bit dated and shows the wear. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. A multi-million dollar update would be needed to list this as 4 stars. Avoid the health club old broken equipment in a basement below the parking garage under the hotel, next to a swimming pool. very humid, stuffy, crowded and old. i beleive that the SG just contracts this space with a private health club.
“Best place to stay near Bondi Beach, great coffee stand in lobby”
The place was nice, the service was friendly and helpful. We did not have any problems at all. The rooms were clean. I have NOTHING bad to say at all. I was very satisfied. There is a great coffee stand in the lobby. The guy running that was very friendly and entertaining. After the first time he meets you, it's like you've been friends for years. He remembers just about everything.
