Syktyvkar Vacations

Syktyvkar lies in a popular part of Komi Republic, a part of the world known for its forests, rivers and lakes.

Visitors often use Syktyvkar as a jumping off point for other journeys. Komi Republic is home to a number of cultural and natural attractions. Yb, lays 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the north, while Vizinga is situated 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the northeast.

To really get an understanding of the present, it's often helpful to return to the past. Komi Republic's fascinating old towns are a marvellous place to start. If it starts raining cats and dogs, don't panic, Komi Republic is home to plenty of indoor history museums and theaters, guaranteed to keep culture vultures entertained.

When you hear the call of the great outdoors, do as the locals do and go hiking or caving.

In many cases, the difference between being a savvy traveler and a mere tourist is an understanding of language, so be sure to memorize a number of useful Russian words and phrases before you go. "Xotite potancevat?" ("Would you like to dance with me?") is useful. "Where are you from?" is also useful, so try pronouncing "Otkuda ty?"

You'll never want to bid "Poka!" (farewell) to this unique part of the world.
