“Great Hotel!! Almost new!”

My husband and I stayed this past May and we're very happy with the decision we made about the hotel. The receptionists are very kind, they speak English very well. They even served us as translators with the Alitalia baggage recovery department because the airline lost our baggage and took 4 days to get them back. The room wasn't that big, but was very comfy. The only complaint we had was that the cleaning stuff started the duties early in the morning and we could hear the noises which was kind of annoying some mornings. the breakfast was great!! Many options to choose. Hotel is located across the Archeological Park in which is placed the Greek Theater and the Dionisio's ear. I'd pick the same hotel if I ever go back to Siracusa. It's the best option in eastern Sicily.

“Very Pleasant Hotel”

This new (March 2007) hotel is only a couple of blocks from the archelogical park and one of the newer churches of Siracusa. The hotel is clean, new, and modern (energy efficient; hardwood floors; etc.), has one of the nicest and most helpful staffs we have experienced at any hotel, and was only a short drive from Isola Ortigea (spelling???). We'd stay there again.

“Clean modern hotel, friendly staff”

We stayed here for 6 days and thought it was great. The room was large and clean although it took some time to work out all the controls on the bath/Jacuzzi. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, particularly the barman. The breakfast buffet was adequate and the coffee good. The hotel room was very comfortable but the rest of the hotel lacks character, the lobby and bar being quite echoey. The free parking can get a bit full but there is alternative underground paying parking. The hotel is well situated for mainland attractions, being right next to the Neopolis. Ortygia, for the best restaurants, bars and other attractions, is a half hour walk away down boring streets, the bus system being in disarray, but taxis are easy to get and cost about 10 euros.

“Great Hotel at a Reasonable Price”

The hotel is easy to get to by car and is within 5 minutes walking distance to the Archeological Park and Museum. The walk to Ortygia is about 20-25 minutes. The street in front of the hotel is very busy at mid-day and can be an interesting experience to try to drive at that time. The hotel is very quiet, clean and comfortable and had a great breakfast buffet. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel has an indoor parking lot with security cameras. The downside is that most of the good restaurants are nearer to Ortygia, so you have a long walk or a cab ride to dinner. The area surrounding the hotel is residential/commercial and post-war architecture. If you want the old-world atmosphere, stay on Ortygia. I highly recommend this hotel for a one or two night stay if you just want to quickly take in the ruins and museums.

“Would definitely recommend”

My husband and I and our 4 year old son enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Siracusa Prometeo very much. The hotel is well kept and pretty. Our room was very comfortable with a nice queen size bed with great linens, nice wood floors and amazing bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower jets. There's a lovely restaurant on the top floor with a very friendly staff that serves a good buffet breakfast and a very nice restaurant in the lobby that serves dinner. The hotel staff was incredible. Anything that we needed they got right on it. When you enter/exit hotel you are always greeted very warmly by the person on duty at the front desk. Only one minor negative - the hotel programs the thermostats so you are not able to control air conditioning/heat. It would have been nice to have some AC on some of the days of our 2 week stay but opening the window and getting some nice fresh air was probably the better solution and that's just what we did.

“Lovely Getaway Weekend”

We went for easter weekend, so a fleeting visit and one I'd happily repeat. The Hotel was really nice and far far better than I'd expected. The staff were really helpful. They happily called a riding stables to book us a hack on day 3. My Italian is zero. Every time I thought of a word it turned out to be French or Spanish so I just stuck to English. We had a bit of difficulty occasionally but we survived with no funny stories. 99% of the time we communicated well. Even the Horse riding guide, who didn't speak English (or so he said - in English) taught me to ride far better in just 2.5 hours. We Drove around a bit, visited headlands and beaches, went into Ortigia for dinners, drinks and shops. The last day we went riding and had a fantastic time. The Guide was really nice and very accommodating. All in - we didn't do anything amazing. But it's a beautiful place to be when you don't have a plan. In summer there are more water-sports and other things to do which I'd love to do, but to nip off for some early sun and relax with good company in beautiful surroundings with great food and long lazy lunches/dinners I'd definately recommend both the hotel and the area.

“Location, location, location.”

An excellent brand new hotel in the minimalist style. Good breakfast and helpful reception. However, we were in a standard room at the back of the hotel which was smallish, with a small window with integral blinds and not much of a view. It was OK for the one night, but think you would want a better (and more expensive) room for a longer stay. We stayed in order to visit the archeological park and museum and it was fine for this, but were so glad that the remainder of our stay was on the island itself, as the location of this hotel is a fair distance from the historic centre of Siracusa.

“Good but too far from ortigia”

It is a good hotel with nice, clean rooms and cordial staff. In the summer, the roof swimming poll and terrace is a plus. It would specially great to whoever goes to Syracuse for business. However, it is too far from the real tourist and historical center (the island of Ortigia). If one is visiting the city as a tourist. There are definitely better choices closer to the desired places. The neighborhood around the hotel is a residential busy area with a nice sport center and the greek theater near by. the breakfast at the hotel is just too basic. As a summary, the hotel is very nice but not the right choice for someone interested in getting the best of syracuse.
