“Excellent hotel for the price!”
I had been looking for a clean and decent hotel in the area and found Dong Wu Hotel which won a Trip Advisor award for this year. I thought I couldn't possibly go wrong and as expected, it was a very clean hotel with spacious rooms. I was also very pleased with the friendliness of the staff there as they were very helpful. I would not hesitate to go back again! It's really a great value.
“In the heart of old Taiwan”
We loved this hotel, where we stayed for five nights last week. We liked being in a neighborhood of traditional small shops, local restaurants, friendly people (and the hotel provided a handy map of the neighborhood, featuring both places to eat and places to see)--in contrast to the glitzy international center of Taipei, which did not interest us. The surrounding neighborhood of merchant shop-houses developed in the late 19th-early 20th century in relation to shipping via the river just to the west, with wonderful period architecture now preserved as an historical district. Yet a new metro station (opened November 2010) just a block away made the whole city (including National Palace Museum, central train station) easily and speedily available. The hotel's front desk staff was extremely cordial and helpful. The hotel restaurant is open 7 AM-10 PM; breakfast included in the room cost is a tasty buffet of Chinese, Japanese, and Western food. Our room was spacious and well designed. We were sad to leave.
