Have been spending a weekend away with the same friends for the past 9 years . Istanbul and the Marmara Pera did not disappoint. The rooms were lovely with a retro feel and the bathroom was modern.
The area is fantastic for dining and drinking with many bars and restaurants within a 10 minute stroll .
The rooftop bar had fantastic views over Istanbul and very attentive service.
We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but found 2 lovely places nearby which did fabulous and reasonably priced meals. The Delicatessen and The House Cafe. Great scrambled eggs ,with cheese at the first and with spinach at the latter. Both did an excellent cappuccino too.
The staff at the hotel were helpful and friendly. One of our party felt that room service knocked too early and too frequently in the mornings. Being 2 hours ahead of London time we were being quite lazy in the mornings!
We could easily walk to the Galata Tower and Bridge, crossing over to the old town souks and mosques. The view from the Galata Tower is good and helps to understand the geography of the city.
We didn't have to queue for long but we saw some very long queues on other days. Heading down from the tower to the Galata bridge there are some lovely small fish restaurants just to the right and past the fish market. Try some freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.
We would recommend both the hotel and area for a short break to Istanbul.

Impossible to park a taxi outside and so expect to walk around 500 yards along broken and dangerous pavement up to the hotel. So travel light!! However, once at the hotel you are welcomed by friendly staff to one of the loveliest and most tastefully decorated boutique hotels in Istanbul. The hotel is reminiscent of the bygone Era of the wealthy aristocratics of Istanbul and their glorious town houses. The owners have kept true to the history of the building renovating many of it's features such as the grand marble staircase and the old lift, somehow managing to bring the old Istanbul to life.
My daughter and I stayed and felt that we had been transported back in time from the marbled floors, high ceilinged bedroom to the rickety old iron lift.
The service was first class and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The rooms clean with top class Egyptian cotton bedlinen and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.
A lovely hotel close to restaurants and plenty of shopping.

This was a superb hotel, with lovely staff, a fab breakfast and the most comfortable beds we've ever had in a hotel. The location is fantastic, not far from Taksim square and a stone's throw from Istaklal Caddesi. It makes it a perfect location to explore from, for restaurants and for catching the fab public transport (metro, funiculars, the old tram down Istaklal (been going 101 years) and the Tunel to Galata (been going 140 years!). We loved our stay at Corinne and give it five stars all round.

We only realised afterwards that we may have been better off staying in the old town area as we spent a majority of are time there. Nonetheless, our stay at the hotel was great except for the one night (Friday/Saturday) when there was some really loud music played in some club.
The restaurants were a bit quiet but we still enjoyed the few meals that we had there. Shame that we didn't get a room with a better view of the Bosphorous

The Beyoglu-Taksim district is on the European side of Istanbul, across the Golden Horn from the historic city centre. “Beyoglu” generally refers to the area in Taksim between Taksim Square and the Tunel (subway). The district has traditionally been the most European quarter of Istanbul, with many consulates and embassies. It remains famous for its arts, entertainment, and nightlife.
