“Not impressed”

Hotel is close to the USF campus which is convenient but is not impressive by any other means. The free breakfast and wifi are its other redeeming features.

“Clean and comfortable”

Friendly, helpful staff. Motel is clean and well-maintained inside and out. Would recommend to anyone needing a hotel near USF.

Area recommendations

Lettuce Lake Park nearby has an excellent walking path above a cypress swamp.

“Would stay again”

This hotel was nice and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was not the best however. The front desk staff were really nice, especially Marco , who really impressed me with his customer service skills. We arrived at the hotel very late, and upon check-in, he noticed I was travelling with my 2 year old. He asked if I'd like a glass of milk for her to get her settled after a long flight. He then had my bags brought to my room as it was just myself and two kids, and we were really tired. I would stay again.

“Hotel with best price/performance when visiting USF or Bush Gardens”

I was looking for a place to stay a couple of nights close to USF. The Wingate is literally across the street from the campus and one of the entrances. I had a room facing the street with a king size bed. What I liked: Excellent service, _very_ clean and fairly large room with sofa, coffee table, and nicely sized work desk. The bed was pretty comfortable with nice and clean linens. The hotel offers an outside pool and an indoor spa/jacuzzi and a work-out room. I didn't use any of them, but they also looked impeccably clean. The service overall was very accommodating (e.g., it was no problem to extend the check-out time to 2pm, for instance). What I didn't like: Outside traffic was quite hearable despite some distance from the heavily used road. This is probably a non-issue for rooms facing the other side of the hotel. The breakfast was w/o imagination (not enough healthy items, for instance); the typical sterile, machine processed food that has no nutritional value and that seems common in this area. This place would be excellent if it would serve more fresh food options and use real silverware and ceramic plates/cups. As it was, every morning I produced a pile of trash from a little bit of breakfast that was mostly tasteless. It's time the this aspect of the American life style changes for the better. That said, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall, this is still one of the best options to stay in this neighborhood and the price seemed reasonable.

“Clean, friendly, good location”

This hotel is located right near Moffitt and Busch Gardens. They have a business center, a pool (that I didn't use) a hot tub and a nice workout center. The breakfast is free and enormous (eggs, bacon, waffles, muffins, fruit, juice... and on and on). They offer free shuttle service to Moffitt, USF, and Busch Gardens. The rooms were large and clean; I would absolutely go back.

“College visit”

Stayed at this hotel while visiting USF. Very convenient, good breakfast buffet, comfortable and clean room. Will use this hotel location again.

Area recommendations

Surrounding area and "University Mall", may not be best area to be visiting alone. USF campus was beatiful and friendly. Easy to find shopping, Busch Gardens, Tampa can be seen from hotel.

Getting there

Approx. 20 min from Tampa airport, not diffcult to locate hotel.

Getting around

We did rent a car, but the hotel does have a shuttle. Unsure of drop off and pick-up routes.

Dining

Easy to find resturants, area easy to negotiate in rental car. Be careful, Florida drivers always seem to be in a hurry.

“Impressed”

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Check in was fast and efficient. Our first impression of the hotel was that it was incredibly clean and well maintained. We stayed in a double queen room which was large enough for two adults. The common areas, pool, and hot tub were also very clean and well maintained. I appreciated the availability of additional towels by the pool area. Breakfast was a plus, and our overall experience was so good, we plan to stay here again.

“Close proximity to Busch Gardens!”

Recently stayed at the Wingate for two nights with my family during a trip to Busch Gardens. The hotel was in very close proximity to Busch Gardens. The front desk staff were most helpful. The rooms while certainly very clean did show some mild signs of wear. The hotel lobby, pool, spa and breakfast areas looked updated and very clean. Breakfast buffet was certainly a plus!
