Poor response from check-in and out staff

Posted Oct 2, 2014
Pros: Outside has been repainted and looks nice. The grounds were well kept. From two years ago, broken tiles around pool and patio had been replaced.
Cons: Faucet in bath area needs new replacement. Please remove plumber plunger from side of toilet in bathroom-a sign of cleanliness and trouble free envir.
Location: Walking distance-shops, dining at Michaels, bistro-cafe. Driving distance (2 mi.) nearby in New Mex. is Taos Indian Pueblo. All is picturesque!!
At check-in ask for receipt of reservation because two occupants were to equally share expense. Staff said could not give us a print out of cost on check-in nor at check out either one. In otherwords not receipt, nor billing amount confirmed at check in desk. Staff most unfriendly and offensive as slightest question or request for receipt. Said all had to be done on internet. They could not help in this area! On The second night was 32 degrees outside, and the room had no heat nor blankets. The next morning the room was very cold and uncomfortable. At check out, clerk was told about no heat and the cold night. One occupant was 79 years old and had been extremely cold. Desk clerk said she was sorry, but management had not anticipated the cold weather so the boiler had not been "fired up" yet. It was noted that the heat was electrical baseboard heaters ( estimated from 40-50's eras). Again the clerk said management had not "fire up the boiler" ! Needless to confirm, no boiler was connected with the room heat, it was solely electrical baseboard units. Very uncomfortable, management negligent, and staff lied on source of heat. I am an architect and know the make up of baseboard electrical heat --as noted, no hot water involved here from any boiler for room heat. In late September, a motel complex located at above 7000 feet in the Rocky Mountains covered with snow the next morning, signifies uncompentent management of over 50 years ownership. Something wrong here !

Not the best but it works

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Pros: Friendly, accommodating staff, nice, large pool, easy walking distance to downtown Taos and events; Pueblo dances, quiet location
Cons: The insides of the rooms could use some fresh paint, new lamps/fixtures, bathroom remodel or new tubs, and newer bed pillows
Location: Lots of things to do nearby such as good dining, shopping, art galleries, art events, rafting, hiking, biking,Taos Pueblo and Taos ski valley
I had stayed at the Kachina Lodge before, I think two or three times. While it's not the most up-to-date motel, it works but may not be for the person who likes perfectly clean and pretty. This place is in obvious need of remodeling and upkeep. Here were a few things I noticed about our room: -Ripped lampshade -Large planter outside of room filled with trash and cigarettes -Shower itself works well with hot water, but water went all over floor due to thin, loose curtain -a cobweb or two near heater in bathroom However, those things were minor and overall, the room was clean, the tv and internet worked, staff was friendly and right on top of it when we asked for an extra blanket; hairdryer, lotion and soap in bathroom; breakfast was free with room price and wait staff was excellent and friendly. It's also close to just about anything you want to do in downtown Taos and also close to the Pueblo. If you don't want to worry about people upstairs waking you up, make sure to request the second floor. While it's not the fanciest place in Taos, I would stay here again.

The rooms are somewhat dated, but the décor is nic

Posted Sep 23, 2014
Pros: Staff and grounds
Cons: minor updates to rooms... carpeting, flat screen tv (if it matters to you)
Location: Walking distance to the Plaza, food, galleries Hiking, skiing, Taos Pueblo and surrounding area.
The staff is accommodating, the grounds are relaxing and the location is great. I had problems with the maid service and was provided another room and an upgrade and discount which more than made up for the inconvenience. Training new staff can be a challenge and I was thankful the office staff took care of the problem and made my stay comfortable and enjoyable. The rooms are, of course, decorated in the Southwestern style, tactfully. Views from the balconies and porches are relaxing and beautiful. Updated carpeting is called for, but with Taos being an "outdoor experience", I was not in the room enough to really care. Do not expect a 4 star experience, but rather a small town cozy feel and you'll enjoy your stay in the heart of town, yet on the quiet edge. I would stay here again.

Completely misrepresented.

Pros: The Native American dance.
Cons: The landscaping and décor.
Hotel was not nearly as close to the plaza as they claim. We expected to walk 2 blocks when it was closer to a mile. The nicest part of our stay was the nightly native American dance. We were without water for all but the first hour of our stay. While this was no fault of the hotel (broken water main), absolutely nothing was done to accommodate their many guests! Water could have been brought to the room for drinking, washing and most importantly FLUSHING the toilet, the lady at the front desk seemed shocked that we should even ask! For that reason alone I asked for a discount on our room and was given a flat NO! If you choose to stay here, use caution around the landscaping, as someone thought sticker bushes would be a nice touch. I spent a half hour picking them off our clothes and luggage.

Hotel pictures are very misleading

Posted Sep 5, 2014
Getting to our room was a good picture of what the room was going to be like. Trash had not been picked up from the hallway. Carpet in room was stained. There was bird poop on the balcony so we could not sit or look out from there.

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: If you've have never had a Taos Green Chili Beer at Eskes Bar and Grill, you're missing out!
The price was not cheap but acceptable for a single guy on a motorcycle trip. The room needed refurbished: lamp switches work poorly, shower head was full of lime from hard water, wash basin faucet aerator was damaged due to lime from hard water, corners show effects of wear and unthorough cleaning, failing concrete on sidewalks, driveways and parking areas asphalt in disrepair. The most annoying thing was the motel guidebook in the room was very out of date. TV listings were no good, there is no dining room open daily, breakfast starts at 7:00 not 6:30. The bed was comfortable, the carpet looked reasonably clean, the linens and towels were clean, soft and not worn. The motel is comprised of several buildings. My room was out of the way and was nice and quiet. The motel is a short walk to the Taos Plaza, shopping and some restaurants.
