“Love the SageBrush Inn!”
I love the Sagebrush Inn. I stay there a couple times a year--and I live about 90 minutes from there. I stay because it is cozy, quiet, reasonable and the people are just lovely.
“Long on charm, short on cleanliness.”
I chose the Sagebrush Inn because it has a lot of character. My room faced a grassy green courtyard; it had 2 chairs so guests can sit under the portal and enjoy this excellent space. The hotel was built in 1929 and has been renovated at least several times since then; however, the most of the furniture was "tired" and the carpet was worn. There was an area between the wall and headboard of the bed, and between the wall and the bedside tables that was obviously dusty and even had wrapping from a band-aid lying there. The rest of the room looked very clean, but that band-aid wrapper made me wonder. There was also space between the door and door frame. The room had a flat-screen TV. The small desk provided was Territorial style and very nice. The air conditioning/heating unit worked so well that it almost got too cool, and there is a free refrigerator in the room. I think I would probably stay at the Sagebrush Inn again, with the proviso that I found the room offered was better vacuumed than this one.
“Not Clean”
The room was not clean. There was hair on the shower walls and bathroom floors. The sheets were stained. And the bedroom carpet was in desperate need of vacuuming. Even after requesting the room to be cleaned better for our 2nd and 3rd nights, there was little improvement made by the cleaning staff. The breakfasts were decent and very convenient before leaving in the morning for Taos Ski Valley. Overall, it was not the best hotel and we will not be returning.
“Problems Here”
The room was clean when we arrived. However, before long, a rodent problem became evident. Additionally, high levels of exterior noise was apparent. A large group was staying there. They should have been more isolated.
“quaint”
The hotel fit our needs perfectly. The location was near some great restaurnats but not right in downtown. The best part was the breakfast. The troublesome part was the mattress; it needed some help as did my back after the night. Also the fireplace used wood. As a city girl I expected a gas fireplace turned on by a switch - think Renee Zellweger in "New in Town." So that was my bad and not a dig on the hotel. It's not the Four Seasons but that's not what I paid for. I would go back for sure.
“Wildethyme Art”
I love the Sagebrush Inn. I've stayed in their best suites as well as their smallest rooms and enjoyed both immensely. The staff are helpful and courteous and the rooms quite comfortable. In my book, it's one of the many reasons to stay in Taos.
“Historic atmosphere”
Because of its history, dating back to 1930, architecture and unique flavor, I'd recommend Sagebrush. Breakfast was excellent, great choices, lovely room and great service (unlike the front desk). Minor maintenance issues such as burnt out light bulbs. Biggest complaint - the pillows! Horrible, shredded foam lumps that were very uncomfortable. They could replace these with $10 per pack pillows and greatly enhance their guests' sleep!
“Old style charm is what I like in small towns”
Great free breakfast, good old-fashioned bar in the lobby, charming in the way old hotels should be. I'd stay at the Sagebrush again!
“not impressed”
I was disappointed that the room was suppose to be a smoke free room and yet it reeked of smoke. There was an ashtray with butts in it by the door. The toliet did overflow and the water temperature was inconsistent. There were cigarette butts in the court yard by the pool area. The staff was very polite and helpful.
“Excellent value in Taos”
We stayed in the Sagebrush during our summer vacation and it was an excellent bargain. We stayed in the new part of the hotel, and our rooms had kiva fireplaces, a porch facing the mesa and were huge with a king bed and king size pull down. Really nice with tile floors, coffee maker and fridge. The hotel itself is great with lots of southwestern art and a great history. If you like things southwestern you will love the Sagebrush. Only minus is it is a bit out of town, so you do have to drive to the plaza. I would definitely stay there again.
