Nice cheap hotel in Taos

Posted Jul 26, 2014
Sign said under new management. They were working on grounds. Staff was helpful and friendly. This is an older hotel but clean. Bed comfortable. Breakfast was better than some cheap hotels I've stayed at though coffee could have been better and hotter. It is not so close to the Plaza that traffic makes it hard to get in and out. It met my needs and I'll stay there again.

Hotel in Taos,NM

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Location: Location was fine it was outside of the downtown area but close enough to do things. About a hour away from Red River or Angel Fire.
We were disappointed with the smell of the room as we had requested non smoking and there was a smoking smell. They do not provide shampoo but they have a vending machine where you can purchase items. The hair dryer didn't work but they did supply a new one.

Not a very nice place

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: The staff.
Cons: Too much to mention.
Location: Great location. Very close to the plaza.
I was traveling with my two young granddaughters and picked this hotel because of the pool. When we arrived the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Then we went to our room and came up to a door in desperate need of paint. When got inside we found a horribly stained carpet, and rather shabby room. After a long drive I was too tired to try and find another place to stay so we decided to make the best of it. We headed to the pool and were in for a horrible shock. The indoor pool area smelled like nothing I had ever experienced before. A mix of mold and stagnant water. There appeared to be no ventilation in the room and the doors leading to the little patio were blocked. We crept closer to the pool to take a look and saw old bandages and other assorted items on the bottom. Needless to say we gave up on that idea and went to bed right after dinner.

It was nice, we made a spontaneous trip to Taos, NM. We planned on staying one night decided on two. Facilities were clean, TV remote didn't work, but we made it work. Parking lot was kinda dirty but convenient. Breakfast was good, nothing fancy but good. Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. I will stay there again.

Needs improvement

Posted Jul 1, 2014
Pros: The waffles at breakfast are very good. The hotel is in a convenient location and was relatively quiet.
Cons: Room amenities.
This is the second time in six months we have stayed in the Whitten Inn. The internet connection did not work in our room (only in the lobby) during our first stay, but we thought it was otherwise OK for the price. This time, we asked for a room nearer to the lobby and our internet connection did work. Unfortunately, there were other problems this time. We had two queen beds, with four pillows on each bed, and nearly all were unusable due to their extreme lumpiness. The other problem involved the soap. They do not provide any bar soap, only liquid soap dispensers at the sink and in the shower. This soap serves as hand and body soap, as well as shampoo. The soap in our shower ran out on our second day, so we had none for baths or hair washing until the maid replaced it later that day.

Good deal

Posted Jun 9, 2014
I stayed here for a weekend away, and it's a good value for the money. The heated pool and hot tub, and the room was clean and well decorated. They're way understaffed, so there were a few glitches. My lights were all unplugged when I arrived, but the maintenance staff arrived promptly and fixed it for me. Someone tried to get into my room the second night I was there, because the front desk staff person had forgotten that she'd moved me to a different room. (The first room, the door wouldn't open, even with the card key and a green blinking light.) It's not the Ritz, but for the money, it's a good deal.
